They do nothing but squash you into a different appearance. It doesn't help you lose weight. Eating in a calorie deficit helps you lose weight.

Wearing a waist trainer while doing cardio sounds like a recipe for disaster. Willingly not being able to breathe during anaerobic exercise is my idea of torture.

    A corset.

I've never used one, except to try one on. I like breathing too much.

I tried it before and all it did was cut my workout short because it was so uncomfortable. I got better results by just eating right and working out. There are no short cuts!

A waist trainer can actually make your core muscles weaker because it does some of the work your muscles would normally do to hold you in and up.

One of my Instagram friends posted "before" and "after" pictures from her using the waist trainer for several weeks. There was very little difference between the two sets of pictures... if anything, the "after" somehow looked worse. Of course she hadn't been keeping on track with her diet and fitness. Those two components will help you far more than a piece of underwear.

waist trainer are not the same thing as corsets.

Corsets are same day- same use things.

Waist trainers are like tight lacing. It's about actually retraining your waist to a different "shape"- and is to be done regularly and essentially supposed to get tighter- more like braces. Where as a corset is like a retainer- just to keep things the way they are and keep them ship/shape bristol fashion as it were.

They can be the same thing. Some corsets are designed to just hold things in, some are desinged to be "waist trainers". The two are kind of like rectangles and squares: not all corsets are waist trainers, but all waist trainers are corsets.

Agreed yes- but it needs to be noted- that there IS a difference between the purposes of them.
  • Yeah, they all over IG ... however I have yet to see real results..most of these ppl have gotten plastic surgery ect @ one point.... and now promoting them as weight loss results....

There are different kinds of waist trainers. If this is something you are going to engage in, you have to get used to wearing one, and actually season it before working out. I would highly recommend having one custom made, as off the rack won't necessarily be the best for working out. I do agree about it not necessarily helping your core, but if you need help with form and keeping your back straight, other women do use corsets for medical reasons such as scoliosis and the like. Just do a lot of research. There is a lot of mis-information out there.

Chances are that if it doesn't involve hard work and patience, it's probably a scam.
  • They are actually pretty dangerous for your health, and clearly not worth it. If you want to reduce your waist circumference stick to a healthy diet and regular exercise.

So... OP is going to be reasonable and take our advice?

    You're alright, OP.
