Gaining after hard days work!

I get so frustrated after I go up In ounces when I ate completely within my calories and drank all my water for that day... I know it could be water retention or bloat but still it gets me down. Any suggestions on how to keep from gaining? Then again I might be dramatic when it comes down to it.

    Stop stepping on the scale daily or multiple times a day? Weight fluctuation is normal and weight loss isn't linear.

    Only weigh in once a week if the fluctuations bother your or throw you off your game...

    I could eat 1200 calories on the nose and walk for 4 miles and the next day the scale goes up - it's water retention. Weight loss isn't linear. You don't get rewarded daily for doing the right thing. It's the law of averages.

    I way every morning, only once a day. I do this to keep me in check to make sure I don't gain too much.

    Natural body weight fluctuations are...well...natural. The process of water retention and release is a natural bodily function...this is like asking how to stop pooping. And speaking of poop, you always have fluctuating amounts of waste in your system as well...that shows up on the scale.

    Maybe step away from the scale and weigh in less frequently if you can't wrap your head around natural fluctuations and they bother you that much.

    Beyond that, this is why trend analysis is far more important than weigh in to weigh in analysis.

    Try to focus more on how you feel.

    I like to weigh daily too but I don't get upset by 1-3lbs of variation. On the day after a long run, I'm always up a couple of lbs...but I would rather see that than not have ran at all just to see a loss on the scale. Running makes me feel good.

    My last big number drop on the scale came from not exercising for almost 2 weeks when I had the flu. I ate good but didn't exercise and I dropped like 5lbs. But I didn't feel well.

    Weight loss is not linear. Meaning, you won't lose steadily every day. Almost nobody does. If normal fluctuations bother you that much, then you are not a good candidate for daily weigh-ins. The best thing you can do is to weigh once a week, or less.

    I weigh once a day, but it's for my own information - I know if I've gone up after a good day, it's water retention from too much sodium/exercise therefore I need to drink more water. Weighing yourself daily expecting actual results is setting yourself up for disappointment. I don't suggest it. Make sure you're taking measurements and try not to focus on the scale except once a week. I know it's hard, but if you really want to avoid disappointing yourself daily, it's key.
