what is a good health weight to start to planning to have kids? is 180 too heavy to even think about it ? my ultimate goal is to be 160 lbs but i wont be able to make that by October, the reason i say October is because my husband might be deployed and we will know for sure by then if he is or isnt going to be deployed, we are hoping he isnt. If thats the case then it gives me 4 months to loose 4 months to loose the 50 llbs i have to loose which i know is impossible. anyone know the answer to my question or any ladies who have had kids can you please tell me what your start weight was when you got pregnant?
thanks

I think 180 is completely reasonable. You have to remember it might take a few months, and while you are TTC you can still be trying to lose weight. Then, once you are pregnant, you can continue to eat healthfully and exercise regularly to keep the weight gain at a minimum, say 25 pounds or less, which will be easier to lose after baby is born than 60+ pounds on an unhealthy body. You have to try when you are READY, don't put a number on your weight for this. Good luck to you, how exciting!!

You can be heavy and still get pregnant its whether you want to or not.

It depends on multiple factors... your height, your overall health. I was 180 when I conceived my second child and my doctor gently advised me to not gain more than 20 pounds. I ate like I was allergic to everything processed. Lots of salads, lean protein, and other nutrient dense foods like nuts. I gained 22 pounds during that pregnancy and didn't have any issues with diabetes or other complications. So I would recommend you talk to your doctor.
  • I was around 250 when I got pregnant with my 1st and around 235 with my second... both were good pregnancies.. I walked a lot with both ....!! Your goal weight seems reasonable... and doable!! Just have to be strict with yourself on the nutrition part!!! Good luck :)

I'm 5'9 and was 217 when I got pg with my son. My dr was fine with my weight and I gained a total of 37 pounds. Your dr may give you an "ideal" weight, but you are the one that has to be okay with what you weigh and how much more you are able to carry. Good luck!1

I was 220 when I got pregnant with my first daughter. I had a good healthy pregnancy and everything went well. I think 180 is completely reasonable. Plus you need to give yourself the time to conceive. Its ok to try to conceive while dieting, and it actually increases your chances. To keep weight gain to a minimum, eat healthy during your pregnancy. I am a polycycstic ovarian syndrome sufferer, and so my weight at the beginning of pregnancy was usually higher than the day I gave birth lol...good luck to you in your goals, being a mother is the best job in the whole world!!! :)

right now i weight 210.8 so im hoping to be 180 by aug. so that is still 30 lbs left for me to loose which will prob. be easy for me since i cant eat solid foods for the next 2 weeks because i had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday, i just want to be able to look at the scale and see that i dont weigh 210 lbs any more i lost 6 lbs so far but the scale kept saying i gained weight due to working out it kept saying 217 or 215 and not its 210 so i am happy with the 6 lb loss but i want to be able to see 180 again or even 160 i generally try to eat healthy eat slow carbs and fast carbs and a protein, love my veggies and i eat a ton usually for dinner i have a lean meat organic beef or i will have chicken or salmon with a potato and a veg. i eat good healthy snacks too.

I would say, try to loose as much as you can before becoming pregnant and then once pregnant, just continue to eat healthy and workout. My doctor is british and strongly believes that a woman doesn't have to gain more than 10lbs the entire pregnancy. He says European woman don't gain harldy a pound most times and their babies on avg are only 2oz smaller than american babies. European woman eat very healthy because their gov't ban all transfats and harmful ingredients, as well as promote good farming practices which our gov't ...let me not even go there. Anway, I will tell you my last pregnancy I gained way less than my normal 50lbs and I bounced back sooooo much easier and felt so much better. And a woman that is considered overweight my doctor states they can actually lose weight and it not be an issue during pregnancy. Ofcourse it is imperative to eat healthy, exercise and take prenatal vitamins. I will probably get a lot of flack for stating this, but I strongly agree with my doctor after doing quite a bit of research myself and my best friend lives in Paris and confirmed that pregnant women there only have bellies and don't seem to gain an ounce anywhere else.

During this time, you may want to think about getting a good protein drink. I love Dr. Mercola's Pure Protein Power...it is from organic grass fed cows and is loaded with great nutrients.

Are you concerned about your health, or your figure?
If you're concerned about your health, call up your doctor. Get his advice.
If you're concerned about your figure one of the above posters is right; while trying to get pregnant, you can continue to try to lose weight. Then once you're pregnant, you can eat well, walk lots, stay active, and for the first few months you may actually continue losing weight before the baby gains much mass.
I didn't check how tall you were, but
A friend of mine got pregnant at 5'3" and 155 pounds. She stopped drinking, stopped smoking, ate RIGHT, and walked a TON almost every day. Four to Eight miles worth (not fast). She didn't eat past 7pm, etc. And she only gained 17 pounds that pregnancy. Then, after a week, it was all gone. If you do it right, you really can gain mostly baby.

I'm 5'5" was about 180 when I got pregnant with my 1st child, my son. I didn't know how to eat proper so I gained ridiculously rapidly about 100lbs-- but mind you I had been a yo-yo fad dieter before then. My son, however a big boy at 9lbs 13oz, was extremely healthy and no complications at birth. Today he is a skinny energetic boy around 69lbs and will be 10 on Friday. With my daughter I was in the 280's trying to lose weight :blushing: when I became pregnant. I did develop gestational diabetes. Under specialist care gained about 38lbs and walked daily during my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The exercise kept my sugars under control with no meds and my daughter weighed less than her brother at 8lbs, 7oz. She passed all her tests at birth. She is about to turn 5 in a few weeks and is a very happy, healthy little ballerina.

So of course discuss this with your doctor, but I say 180 is quite reasonable! From my experience I would say as long any weight you lose before then has been healthy (which I know you will make sure) and you can keep active-- go for it. GOOD LUCK and lots of baby dust :flowerforyou:
