So i'm generally not into gimmicks, and 99% of the time, I really do stick with eating the wholesome foods that nature intended for us. But i came across this zero calorie "miracle noodle" which is apparently make of undigestable plant fiber (hence the 0 calories).

I'm really really curious to try this b/c i love pasta, BUT I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the possible down-sides to this - is it bad for your body/GI system to be eating this undigestable stuff?? I'm SURE it can't be great for u, but i would probably only eat this on occasion anyway.
thanks!

Was looking at these the other day. Interested to see what others have to say. Bump!0

I would stick with regular pasta, if I were you. I am always HIGHLY suspicious of foods like this ... what exactly are they making it from? ... sounds iffy to me.
Pasta in moderation is just fine. It is a complex carb (starch, better than sugars, but not as great as more complex carbs), and most pastas are vitamin enriched. Just stick with a single serving (about the size of your fist, if I recall correctly) and it should be an okay part of a well-rounded day. And if you can find whole-wheat pasta, or pasta cooked with veggie ingredients (beet juice, spinach puree, tomato juice, etc - I think Whacky Mac makes some of those) it's even better.0 -
I found the shirataki noodles at meijer over a year ago. They were like rubber and flavorless. I was so upset because pasta at one time was my weakness. I heard if you boil them they may be softer. IDK, I was dissapointed.0

i bought a packet of this when i was on atkins and tried to use it instead of spaghetti - it was not nice!
However, i made a stir-fry for my husband with it and it he said he enjoyed it.0 -
I buy the tofu shirataki noodles (same noodle, but with tofu added, improves the texture). They're only 20 calories per serving (because of the added tofu), and are AWESOME!!!!
My daughter LOVES them. I make stir fry, and ramen...all kinds of things.
Hints :
-Rinse Well
-Pan dry them (fry them in a pan), to get rid of the liquid they come packed in
-You can't overcook them like regular noodles.
-They dno't have any flavor alone, but they soak up the flavor of the surrounding ingredients. So think broths (chicken, beef, vegetable), & boullion cubes for flavor
We love them, actually, I'm making chicken stir-fry tonight with them.

These look a lot like yam noodles I get at the japanese market for shabu shabu. They come in the water packets and have a different texture than semolina noodles, they are a little rubbery. I've never tried them with pasta sauce though. There is also some noodles made of mushrooms somewhere out there that is zero calories as well. I've never tried those. Yam noodles though are pretty good with ponzu or goma sesame sauce with boiled veggies on their own merit.0

I had gotten the Miracle Noodles, and the Shirataki Noodles.. I didn't really care for them, although I ate them anyway. They are quite rubbery, and I think the part that turned me off the most is that I had to rinse them for what seemed like FOREVER and still could not get the rest of the odd fishy-like smell out of them. Luckily if I put something overpowering on them, it covered it up, but I would never buy them again.
I did but the Raw World Kelp Noodles which are almost like the same consistency. Three 4oz servings come in one pouch at 6 calories each, so 18 calories for the whole bag. I still rinsed mine (as it says) but I didn't really have a reason to rinse longer than 30 seconds.. No gross smell, in my opinion.
It is one big clump of noodles (like a big, flattened rubber band ball) when you take it out, but I chopped it up a little bit (I think I just cut the brick of noodles into fours) and then added my spaghetti sauce. Once I microwaved it for a few minutes they softened up. And I actually found them to be filling and I WILL be ordering these again. I would imagine if you boiled them for a few minutes they would also soften up, because they are awfully crunchy when you first take them out of the bag. But don't expect them to taste just like noodles.. I was satisfied with the outcome in my spaghetti, but you can't expect a miracle.
To each their own.. Some people just have to have the real thing. If that's the case, it's going to come down to sticking to smaller portions and finding a way to fit it snugly within your calorie range.
I hope this helps..0 -
I've had the tofu shirataki. They're okay, but not a very good sub for pasta. When you want pasta, pasta is the best thing to have. The shirataki noodles are kind of rubbery and you do have to rinse them VERY well. Honestly though, I'd sooner go for zucchini cut with a spiralizer with some sauce on it. But, if you see them at the local supermarket, give them a try, you might like them and they are another option for something low cal. Avoid the fettucini ones though. Those were TOO rubbery for my liking. I think Hungry Girl has a couple of nice recipes for them, have a look on her website.0
