I'm not sure which to pick? My job is a desk job, but it goes something like this.

2pm-3pm - Desk
3-pm-3:30 - Walking outside about 1/2 mile
3:30-5 - Desk
5-7 - some desk, some walking, more movement in general
7-9 - Desk
9-9:30 - Again walking outside about 1/2 mile
10PM - home

And once I'm home, I don't always do a lot. On my app, I average about 6000 steps per day when I don't walk on the treadmill after I get home. When I walk, it can go upwards of 9-10k.

I would start with lightly active give it two weeks and see if you are losing at the rate you selected for your goals. If your not losing at that rate in two weeks I would change it to sedentary.

I'd do the reverse and start at sedentary as you lose weight you can judge whether you are lightly active

However ignore the two week timeframe as many people lose bigger amounts in first few weeks due to water weight ...judge loss over the first say 6 weeks then adjust

Well, I've went from 204 to 196 in 12 days. I expect a lot is water weight, but I chose lightly active, and have been under the 1900 calories every day.
  • HPman we all react differently to food intake and work out routine. I also sitting a lot during the day. I probably spend 3-4 hours driving from one customer to another.
    So I can relate.

If you're losing at lightly active then why would you want to switch to sedentary and have a smaller calorie goal? It's working so stick with it.
