I have the book and I've been reading into it and it seems reasonable for myself personally. I am not much of a fast food eater. When I go out it's rarely pizza or American style Chinese food. I eat whole grains and no red meat naturally. I would basically be swapping out some of my whole grain rice for sweet potatoes (love these, and taro/ube) and chicken for tofu(which I already eat), fish (which I like) and octopus / squid (I've tried calamari salad and it was ok), and fruit for more greens...less fruit in my juices perhaps? They do mention pork at monthly celebrations... I rarely eat any pork, maybe when trying something new, but I used to never eat it. Also, I already eat 1200-1350 kcals a day.... just need to continuously be more active (winter blues).
I haven't looked into the differences between what the book calls its "Western", "Eastern" and "Fusion" plans. But considering I eat konnyaku/ shirataki already for health reasons... it shouldn't be difficult. I have to try and get more green leafy vegetables in without just juicing though.
HAs anyone else tried it... specifically the plans in the book published in 2004?

If the foods in the Okinawa diet plan are foods you like and want to eat then sure, eat them. But remember if you are talking about weight loss, it really doesn't matter if you swap rice for sweet potatoes or eat tofu in place of chicken. What matters is eating at a calorie deficit.
You say you already eat 1200 - 1350 cals a day. Do you know for sure this is how many you eat every day? Because for most people that calorie range will result in a weight loss. I'm 40 years older than you and only 5'2" tall and I can lose eating those calories. I weigh everything I eat on a food scale because I know if I eat more calories I won't lose, and its super hard to eyeball a portion.
I too am subject to less movement in the winter and because of that my weight loss is much slower than it will be once I am comfortable spending lots of time outdoors.

Make an account on Pinterest and put in search terms for Okinawa Diet.
Lots of great pictures and great recipes like "Okinawan Takoraisu (Taco Rice)"
Also google "Sample Meal Plans for the Okinawa Diet"0 -
Yes, that does makes sense. I guess I'm just the type that likes to follow things to the tee. lol
I should have clarified...I have been eating this amount for a week or so. And before that I had been exercising more often. I am losing some weight as this is the highest I have ever been... I've seen a couple lbs come off. However, it slows when I lose weight. When I am say, 148 lbs I can eat 1300 and not lose a thing if I don't exercise. Same goes for the opposite. I suppose, to jump-start my metabolism and lose more, I need to get back to being more active.0
