NROLFW with no barbell for deadlifts. Alternatives?

The "gym" (really more of a workout room) I go to has a Smith machine but no free barbell. I've been doing alternative squats but am not sure what alternatives there are to deadlifting. I think I'm doing something similar to a straight leg deadlift with dumbells but it doesn't seem quite right.

Any options when there isn't a barbell available?

I used dumbbells for deadlifts in the beginning - one in each hand, wrist in neutral position, keeping weights close to shins on the way up. The form was the same as for DLs with a bar. I couldn't go as heavy, obviously, but it was a way to get started.

There are no barbells in my office "gym", I use dumbbells- you just have to get used to adjusting a little bit for the dumbell being bigger than the bar would be when it tracks past your shins, i do regualr DL & romanian with dummbells right now since I dont have access to a better gym
