if MFP is calculating the calories I need to consume to meet my goal should I or shouldn't I be eating my workout calories burned?

Most people think that MFP overestimates the calories burned. I generally try to eat back about 1/2 of the calories that MFP credits me with.

I don't eat back any exercise calories.
  • I don't eat back my burned calories but I'm going to start eating back atleast half. If I only eat 1,200 cals a day and burn around 4-500 well thats unhealthy. I'd say eat some back atleast.

I've been trying not to eat the exercise calories back. The cool thing is exercise gives you more points the other markers like sugar, and sodium. Often I have lots of calories left, but eating anything takes me over one of the other totals. I did 10 minutes on the treadmill before dinner just so I could put fat free sour cream on my taco. I had like 800 calories left, but sour cream put me over on sugar.

If you are looking to lose weight then I wouldn't eat back the calories burned during workouts.

MFP is designed that you are suppposed to eat back your exercise calories. It DOES NOT account for exercise when you set it up.
A lot of people are concerned about overestimation and choose to eat a portion of them back. The more exercise you do, the more important it is. If you are very active I strongly suggest accounting for exercise somehow.
