Lift heavy while in a calorie deficit. Save some muscle mass, lose fat, reveal the muscle you already have. Once you're at an appropriate body fat %, bulk to gain muscle.

People say you can't gain muscle at a calorie deficit but I beg to differ. I'm no scientist at all, but if you are lifting and cutting calories, your muscles will respond. I need to do the same thing. Protein is your friend.
  • I agree with 1234usmc. I'm lifting and doing cardio and creating a calorie deficit, but most importantly I'm making sure I'm getting the appropriate amount of protein everyday. It worked for me in the past.

Your muscles respond when cutting calories and lifting, by not being lost.
