Hey Everyone,

I'm sure a lot of you are like me, and want to lose a good chunk of weight the first week of dieting. Does anybody know of any good methods to Kick start weight loss? There was this diet I tried years ago and the first week I lost almost 10 pounds. I'm looking for something similar. I know weight loss can't be rushed, and losing too much weight at once can be unhealthy, I just want to lose a good amount of weight the first week so I stay motivated.
Thanks for any advice!

Just eating at a deficit will start your weight loss. You're bound to lose quite a bit, mostly water, the first week if you eat healthy. I wouldn't let your motivation be based on losing a bunch of weight the first week, though. What happens if in week two you lose only a pound or even nothing? Will you then quit?

A number on the scale is simply a measurement of progress, the same as body fat %, the measurement of body parts in inches, the number of pounds one can bench press or squat, how far or fast one can run, etc. I realize that our society places a lot of emphasis on that scale number and that it's one of the easiest and most obvious ways for a person to measure "progress". The number gets smaller, progress is being made, QED. There are TV shows built around people trying to make that number go as low as possible in the fastest amount of time. I abhor those shows. I think they've done at least as much to distort people's perceptions of what weight loss should be about as the diet industry has. I believe that another measure of progress is when one realizes that the scale number shouldn't be the only goal or even the most important one.

Keep in mind as time goes on that weight loss is not linear. I'd highly suggest finding another measure of success (the tape measure, for instance) and use that equally along with the scale to measure your progress.

Just jump right to eating better, logging calories and moving more.

You can do low carb, cabbage soup, all kinds of "clenses" etc. But if it's something that isn't sustainable then it would likely be water weight lost in the first week which would just go back on anyway once eating.

Lots of people do have a bigger loss at the start of better eating anyway just because they might cut out things such as fast food or high sodium foods which can make you bloated and hang on to water.

Try not to focus on your weekly numbers too much, look at the overall trend and good luck :)

Hey OP! Your body doesn't need a "kick start". Like the poster said above, all you need to do is eat below your maintenance calories and the weight will come off. Slow and steady wins the race. There may be an initial weight drop that may seem large but it is most likely do to water weight.

Take measurements, sometimes the scale doesn't move but you have lost inches.

The contradictory logic in bold is why the diet industry makes so much money. You know loss can't be rushed, but you're looking for something that claims to rush it.
