I'm new to this and I need advice from different people about staying motivated to lose weight.

Motivation is internal. People can inspire, encourage, give you vote of confidence, but even if you DIDN'T get all that, a TRULY motivated person will do what it takes to get the job done.
So you just have to ask yourself "am I willing enough to do what it takes no matter what?"
If you have to hesitate to answer, then you may not be motivated enough in the first place.

I too have difficulty staying motivated, but when you see the transofrmation some people have gotten out of "sticking to it" that is what motivates me. I started this jorney so many times and quit not even 3 weeks after. Now i wish i would have stuck to it because i'd be where i'd like to be already and not starting over for the "5th: time! Think about hwere you'll be in 3 months from now and the progress you'll have made, at that point, your progress will be all the motivation you need to continue to succeed!

You learn to let that stuff go in one ear and out the other. In life there will ALWAYS be someone putting down for something. If it's not weight, it's clothes, or make up or hair, or shoes, etc.
You're letting them have POWER over you. Put the power in your own hands.

  • I think mostly why I don't stick with it because I work out very rarely. But I want a work out to be fun and not feel like I'm actually working out

There's always dance. Most people enjoy it. My DW lost 30lbs doing mostly ballroom dancing lessons (and now amateur competitions).

Fill your daily diary and set a goal and if you don't see results you will be motivated to keep yourself under calorie limit. Works for me.
Make friends here who will also support and motivate you.

In addition to what ninerbuff said I would add that you have to think about your own goals and chose an activity that you will enjoy. When you find one it will not seem like working out. Also remember this is your life and not anyone else's. People often say negative things because they have their own fears about changing so it is really more about them than you. You are making a positive change for yourself and I commend you for that. When you make changes in your life, particularly with your health, you will lose some people, gain some people and keep some people. This happened to me and I can honestly say that I am a better person for it.
Good luck and feel free to add me as a support :)

I do a weekly boxing class with my son. I don't really care for the workout but its "our time" since he is in college and he enjoys it.(its a great workout) I also take a bootcamp class twice a week and I like the women in the group more than the exercise. I guess I have made my workouts social occasions which in my world is a win/win.

My suggestion would be to find a buddy/friend or maybe one of your parents?

What about food? That is my biggest hurdle. Some days are good, some days are bad. Want to develop a healthy balance. Would love the add for support.

My food/diet is always better when I plan and take a couple hours a week for prep.
When I don't have a plan its easier for me to eat out and make bad choices.

I usually reflect on my day at bedtime. If I did good and made all the right choices and stuck with the plan, I feel great and it gives me motivation for the next day. When I go to bed and I know I made not so great choices I ask myself why and make a plan to do better the next day. Always go to bed feeling good about yourself and know you did the best you could at that time. Accept the decision you made, good or bad and start again the next day.
