How do you do it?

So I have been been finding it's been so awfully cold here I haven't been wanting to workout. My question is : How do you put in the extra effort to get in your daily workout whether it is inside or outside?

It's what I do. It feels weird to NOT work out. It took me almost a year to get here but now it's just part of my day like brushing my teeth. You make time for it. Make it a priority!

At first it was a bit of a struggle, but now I'm to the point my day doesn't feel complete without some sort of workout.

I just do it. Even when I don't want to. Today I almost talked myself out of it, it is too cold to go out to the gym, just make up for it tomorrow, blah blah blah blah blah...then I said..no. Do it. NOW. You have goals, and you won't reach them if you slack off. DO IT.

And I did. Had a surprisingly good workout too. LOL

I do it because I'd be pissed if I didn't. I'd just sit around thinking, I missed squats today and there's no way I can fit them in later in the week, and the thought would drive me crazy and straight to the gym.

My wife has activities in the evenings after work. So I drop her off and instead of going home, I go to the gym. What helps is the gym is no more than 5 minutes away from where I drop her. :)

I plan it, then just do it like I would any other item on my schedule, like work, a doctor appt, etc.

    1. Outside - I have cute outdoor clothes. People who see me running will be impressed at my dedication/insanity.

    2. Inside my house - Hey, I don't have to go out in this weather!

    3. To the gym - The gym is much, much warmer than I can afford to keep my house.

This. My apartment was only 56 degrees today. I was sweating at the gym before I even did anything. AND they have tv, which I don't. Maybe I should move in.

I run for the bonus calories. Afterward I can have a beer and a snack. With the right clothes it is easy to stay warm running outside.

Yesterday my doxie and I took a walk in freshly falling snow. It was great. We were both bundled up but it really didn't seem very cold.

Like sun_fish said, I plan it into my day. I don't live in a cold climate, but I have to take a bus & walk about 15 minutes to get to the gym. It is SO easy to talk myself out of going. Especially at the end of a workday.

So I realized I have to plan it. After work I get off the train and hop right on the bus. Before I know it I'm walking through the door of the gym to get my workout in. On the day that I am talking myself out of not going, I try to remember how much better I feel after a workout than I used to when I just went home and sat in front of the tv. That helps too.

    Hope that helps!

There are lots of home exercise routines on the market that don't require much more than a set of dumbells. Check your local library for exercise DVD's and try them out; that way you don't have to leave your house for a workout.

Because I fear Diabetes far more than the cold LOL
