Something's afoot with my foot!

Hi all,

I am coming back to running after a long break due to illness. I'm treating myself as a beginner and generally it's going well and I'm chuffing through the C25K quite nicely. I've been having an issue with my foot during running - I've done some googling but can't seem to find anything that fits. I've listed the symptoms below - can anyone give any advice or point me to a website? I'm not sure if it's just something that will pass or whether I need to see a physio/doctor.
-
Inner foot (just before my ankle) starts to ache during running, not a sharp pain but a crampy ache which spreads up the inside of my lower leg. I over-pronate and got fitted for some correcting shoes but don't wear insoles. The pain gets worse going up hills but quickly eases if I start walking. I have no pain after I stop running and it doesn't hurt to go on tip-toes or do heel lifts.

Any advice will be super helpful!

    Thanks,

I already have an appointment but the closest is five weeks :( I was wondering if anyone had suffered anything similar and had some advice. I don't want to stop running for five weeks after I have worked so hard for two months :(

better to stop for 5 weeks and sort it out than carry on and do yourself lasting damage.

Do you have flat feet? I have flat feet and when I don't use my orthotic insoles I sometimes feel pain right there after a while. The podiatrist will be able to help you but for now, maybe you can go for walks instead of running? That way you are still getting exercise in but not putting added pressure on your foot.

Check for this orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00166 . Look at your ankle alignment. Know what subtalar neutral is for you https://youtube.com/watch?v=Vf0FWDIO1_U . As mentioned, you may need inserts or shoes with more support. Be careful with this. Running through it may cause further injury.

Actually distance/distance walking puts more pressure on your foot than running. I have a lot of sympathy for the OP. I have size 15 flat feet with bunions and finding good running shoes is a nightmare. Have you been fitted for running shoes by a professional? That helped me.

Thanks for the all the advice. I got fitted for shoes using one of the video treadmills and bought some shoes which straightened up my foot brilliantly. Someone at work has mentioned it my be a problem with my Achilles tendon. I do have very tight calves which I suffered with when I first began running years ago so it isn't unlikely. I have found some exercises such as heel dips etc and am going to give these a go while I wait for my appointment.
