The right amount of cardio for a man?

For months I was on the elliptical for 75 minutes, and in january i brought it down to 60 minutes (hip pains were becoming a little too frequent for my liking) plus i heard as a man its not good to do too much cardio. Im thinking of taking another step down to maybe 45 minutes instead of 60, and work more on the exercise machines and lifting weights, getting my core together now That im not too far from my goal.
currently im 292 at 6'5' looking to be 275 or even 260.
suggestions?
btw: my diet is relatively good, alot of wheat bread sadly, but high in protein and under 2000 calories consistently.

However much you want. cardiovascular exercise is to help with your fitness. There is no reason for anyone to do an hour of cardio every day, but I've done it. I now do ~90 minutes of cardio a week or less.0

"too much cardio"
Does not compute ... I do not understand. What is this strange utterance you speak?
HINT: Do as much (or as little) as you want.0 -
nasm recommendations are "at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity cardiorespiratory exercise, 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity, or a combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity exercise per week"

if you're getting repetitive strain issues, switch up your activities. maybe do some of them more vigorously for shorter periods.

Maybe change it up. Try something new like swimming or walking(running).0

Why would it be bad for a man to do cardio exercises? Men have cardiovascular systems too, which need to be kept healthy. In fact, men are more likely to die of a heart attack than women are.
30 minutes of cardio each day is the recommended minimum for both men and women. There's nothing wrong with more.
If you don't like the elliptical (which, I agree, is kinda boring and overrated), there are a zillion other exercises you can do. Change it up!
Lifting weights is good, too. No reason why you can't do both.

Cardio isn't necessary for weight loss, only eating at a deficit is. If you are doing cardio for health benefits for your heart, lungs, relieve stress etc...you should do what pleases you while keeping a balance of rest so you can continue to do without pain or injuries.
Btw...you cal consumption seems pretty low for someone your stature trying to lose only 30lbs max.0 -
I think an hour a day is too much. Especially if you only doing it on an elliptical.
Try other cardio options. Swimming if you have pain in your joint would be my suggestion
I do 20 mins when I'm at the gym then 40 mins of strength.
Don't you get bored doing elliptical for an hour every day? Do you have a good view?0 -
I would guess that the hip pain is just due to the repetition of the eliptical. The amount of cardio is no big deal, just do something else that doesn't hurt. There are marathon runners that run 100 miles per week and there are also people that tell them it is unhealthy. Try to find out what works for you. It looks like you have lost a ton of weight so there have to be unique changes to your body too.0

Nothing wrong with 60 minutes a day for cardio. I personally do 30minutes with weights and 60 on days that I don't have weights. Like others have said mix it up and spice it up. I spend a lot of time on elliptical but once spring hits I start biking and hiking.0

its hard to not over work cause under working doesn seem to produce enough results for me. Im not big on eating more then 1900 a day or less then 1200. i eat very little maybe a 1/4th of what ive been accustomed to eating before smh0 -
You should be eating enough nutrition to supply your body with energy to do cardio or weight lifting. 700 swing on calories on different days might have something to do with your results if you know what I mean.0
