Dear All, I have a query regarding what calories I should be losing when using MFP. I have done my profile and the system tells me me goal is 1590 a week exercising 4 times a week for 60 minutes to lose 1lb of weight a week. I understand this but must I try and be in calorie defecit of 3500 per week to lose that 1lb of fat or has the system calculated that on my weekly chart as long as my net calories intake along with exercise does not go over that little red line I will still be on target to lose that 1lb and don't have to try and be in defecit by 3500 calories? Hope this makes sense......

The system is calculating that for you. For example, MFP is telling me my daily goal is 1420 calories. That is 500 less than what would be necessary to maintain my current weight and at my current activity level (sedentary - I sit at the computer all day). Multiply that by 7, and you'll get the 3500 calorie deficit for the week (= 1lb fat). If I exercise, I must enter into the exercise diary the estimated calories burned. MFP will add that to the daily goal. Today, for example, I burned 590 calories during my workout. That was added to the 1420 calories to give me my adjusted daily goal of 2010 calories.
I personally pay no attention to the exercise goal function in MFP. I use MFP solely to keep track of calories consumed and burned. I can motivate myself without the app.0 -
The 1590 includes your calorie defecit based on the activity level you have chosen...this should be selected based on your regular day, not your workouts ...eg if you have a desk job choose sedentary
The workouts are an exercise goal you have set yourself ...it is not included in the initial calculation, whenever you workout enter it as under exercise but the best advice is to cut the calories in half by double clicking it due to overestimations on the MFP database as well as gym machines ...you then eat these on top of your 1590 initial calories0
