Treat weekends

This may be a silly question but if you have a treat day where you dont track calories how does that make you gain weight? What I mean is I only dont track cals now if I'm at a special ocassion however been to quite a few recently as Jan/Feb is a lot of birthdays etc however in the week I've been eating like less than what MFP says I should be on but still end up gaining weight? I even exercise doing HIIT at least three times a week then other exercise as well. Surely I am not eating that much to gain every single week?

You need to eat around 3500 cals above maintenance to gain a pound of fat. It's entirely possible that having a lot of non-tracking days could be enough to cause a true gain over several weeks.
However, if the gain you see if just a scale increase following a weekend of over indulgence, then chances are this is just a water fluctuation - if so then it will subside after a few days back at deficit.0 -

You don't know how much you are eating and you can easily eat your defecit or more if you don't count
I don't ever "cheat" I work in going out into my weekly calorie defecit, I continue to log...why lose all the hard work over 5 days by not learning how to be appropriate on days out / celebrations0 -
I am tracking everyday and not doing cheat days. Other wise, I am wasting my time. This is my real life.

I have lost weight plenty of times, but when I got there I would tend to binge or think I could eat what I want, and slowly gained weight back.
It got to the stage when I realised I had to start again... I had crept to 220lb.
I have been reading up on this site again and tracking for the last 5 weeks, and
incorporating what I want to eat into my diet, just less of it and its working wonders,
I no longer crave "treats" as I allow myself what I want as long as I hit my macro's.
This keeps me happy, I don't feel the need to have a Sunday "blowout" like I used to
as I have small treats throughout the week but keep within my limits.0 -
I don't hide my treats. Every Sunday I take myself out for breakfast - 2 eggs, french fries, bacon, oj, toast and coffee. I log everything.0
