Picked up these noodles but I cannot for the life of me figure out how many calories they actually have.

Packet says 103 calories per 100g
Packet has 5 servings (5 packets of noodles)
Total packet weight is 425g Raw
= 437 calories total for the packet right?

HOWEVER:
Packet also says:
One serving is 474 calories
One serving size is 460g?????
5 servings per packet (2300g total)?

Now I've demolished this whole packet of noodles (I ate them raw, so 425g) thinking it was 437 calories, was I wrong and they're in fact 2370 calories?

I realize that the serving size may assume the noodles are water absorbed and that's how they become 460g per serving, however does this also increase the calories? I don't see how this is possible as it's only water.

Can someone please put some light onto this? very frustrating that I've over consumed my whole daily intake in this one snack...

*when prepared as directed. . . .read the label.

At the top of the picture it does say the nutritional info is for "when prepared as directed".
Are there any other ingredients that the instructions say to add?
Adding water doesn't add to the calories. The 425g dry packet cooks up to 2300g. So one serving dry would be about 85g, which swells up to 460g when cooked (and drained). It states 5 servings on the pack, so 474 calories per serving, or 2370 for all 5 servings is correct. Sorry.

I did read the label, the information is still conflicting though..

Your reply didn't answer my question at all.

    Dam, that's really annoying

    Thanks pope705.

Yup - the noodles will increase in weight when you cook them. And the calorie levels on the back are for 100g of the cooked, not raw noodles, there are probably also cooking directions on the back as well, which will say how much water to add to the pack.

The back has 425g raw noodles in it, which when you cook them according to their directions must become 2300g noodles. That seems about right when I think of the last time I made noodles.

This is just an example of how much the world is out to make you fat isn't it? No need to get frustrated in the grand scheme of things. Now you know more about working out what is in food, and that will help you lose far more than the extra calories you've accidently eaten today.

Also watch when you are using the recipe builder that you are recording cooked and raw rice, cooked rice expands a lot during cooking, so 100g of cooked rice is 131 calories whereas 100g of boiled rice is 372 calories.

You want me to answer your question? Which one? Here is what to do: contact the company directly and/or review other noodle manufacturers. In the end, it seems if you took the time to eat the entire package then the total they give you is correct.

When prepared (as it stated on the package), your serving is 460g. That is after cooking.
If you ate 100g, it would have been around 100 calories per serving.

This is one of those log it and move on situations. Take it as a lesson learned.
