When do you turn your HRM off?

So, I am just wondering when you normally turn your heart rate monitor off, when you done working out or when your heart rate has returned to "normal" ??

I think it is probably safer to turn it off when you are done working out. But I'm not sure. Sometimes if I really worked it, I wait til I can breath semi-normally to turn it off. lol.0

I wait until my heart rate is below "the zone" which for me is 120. I figure I worked really hard to get that heart rate up, so I'll take those calories burned until my rate goes back down below 120. Granted, this usually is only 2-3 minutes after I finish my cool down...0

I normally set a work out time givinig myself a warm up session and a cool down then it is turn'd off and thats it even if my HR is slightly higher than it would normally be. Your HR can vary from time to time and will recover at different rates depending on the level of work out anyway.0

I guess you choose for yourself! I do my stretches then turn it on as I leave my garden, then go for my run or ride then when I get back to the gate I switch it off again. I don't want my average hr, or speeds diluting by extending the time tho I probably would find I get more calories allocated to the session! Do what's right for you! Good luck!0

I turn mine off when I finish a workout. Sometimes I forget for a minute but then I turn it off when I remember.
I think that's the best way to do it.

I turn it off when my HR returns to normal....which is typically when I am finished stretching after my run.0

Doesn't make much of a difference for me. My heart rate drops pretty quickly. With in a minute or two I will be down from 157 to 900

My heart rate returns to normal very quickly after a work out, so that minute or two really makes no significant difference in my calorie burn. When I put the weights down and start walking towards the showers, I turn it off.0

For instance today : ...I went did my run...it never came below 120, then went tanning and it went back up---for some reason (it was HOT)...then eventually came back down to around 100-110...granted, I am not in shape...and my resting rate it in the 90's ...other when I'm very tired....it's always been high...0

A normal resting heart rate is between 60-100. It's not normal for you to have a resting heart rate of 120. Please check it a couple of times, and if that's truly your resting heart rate, I'd recommend that you get yourself checked out for tachycardia.
As for wearing the heart monitor while tanning, I sure wouldn't be eating back those calories, 'cause tanning sure isn't exercise. ;-)0 -

My point was...I never stopped moving for it to come down..maybe I should have included that.... and no its not 120 regularly-- like i said i never stopped moving...so i guess i should re-word that... just wondering if you never stop moving when the heck do u turn ur monitor off...as for the tanning --- no it's not exercise but i was surprised to see my heart rate was going so high like i were exercising...0 -
I turn mine off after I stretch and my HR returns to normal. It's nice to burn those extra calories0

I turn mine off when I'm done my workout. An HRM is only an estimate of calories burned. I'd rather underestimate than over.0

Great question! I don't know what the right answer is. I turn mine off after my workout but before the cooldown stretches. Today I did wk 4 day 1 of c25k and turned it off after the 5 minute cooldown walk, but before I stopped to do my stretching. I would think that consistancy is what you want so you are getting an accurate measure.0
