Running inside without a treadmill

Here lately, I've been really slacking with working out due to surgery, the kids, and scheduling. I'm really determined to get back on track so I decided since the weather was crappy, I could just jog around the kitchen island. I did this for 25 minutes. I forget to set my app to calculate distance but generally, it takes me a tad less than 20 minutes to run 2 miles. Just because space was limited, I added an additional 5 minutes to ensure that I hit my 2 mile mark since I'm sure my pace was slighter slower. Is this sufficient? I know that there is no terrain inside, but I run flat on the treadmill most of the time anyway.

What does 'sufficient' mean? Any exercise you do will be beneficial.0

10 minute miles are pretty fast! Are you sure you managed that pace running round a kitchen island? I think an exercise DVD might be more efficient.0

Yes it's true. Something is always better that nothing at all. I guess I'm asking if this is a "fair" or equal replacement for my regular two mile run on a treadmill.0 -
You are moving more, what's not to like

I don't see how anyone can answer that question for you, sorry.

A little less than a 10 minute mile is my usual speed. I added more time because I'm certain I couldn't run it that fast due to limited space. I just went back and used my running app for an additional couple minutes and it calculated my speed at about 10:38 so it took approximately a minute longer to run it. I'm not really a fan of exercise videos. I just like running- it gives me the daily dose I need. :-)0 -

I suppose you're right. I still worked up a nice sweat and really got my heart rate going. What's great about it is that it's so mindless and effortless, I'll do it much more frequently.0 -
I would recommend skipping (jumping rope) as an alternative and its less likely to cause an injury
You can build it up daily from a few minutes (uninterrupted, which is harder than it sounds) to around 40-45 minutes. 0 -

While the jump rope thing sounds cool, it's a bit dangerous in my case- I have two small kids :-)
But- I'll consider getting one to take with me to the trail.0 -
It is not an exact replacement but it is a good replacement. if you are running on a spot it is a little less intensive. However, this is something I do often if I dont want to go outside (especially to music). My tracker starts an activity if it thinks I was running for 10 minutes or more. It has started one for running indoors many times.0

Cool. I like it and it does burn. I'll continue and then when I can get to the treadmill, I will. However, when the weather clears, I'll be back outside! :-p I've recently fallen in love with outdoor running.0 -
Me too. I swore 2 months ago that I will never run unless I had somewhere to go or it was for another sport. I started running for the sake of running a month ago. This week alone I ran 25k, 6k, and 12k all outdoors. Just so easy to lace up. If you stop, then it is going to take longer to get back home
