I was down 44 lbs, but now I'm up 13 lbs. Why do I sabotage myself? I'm so frustrated.

I'm hip to this. We're having to un-do lifelong bad habits and it's so gosh-darn comfy to eat all the carbs and fats (our brains crave them until we re-train our brains.) Sometimes it's situations that 'trigger' us going back to those bad habits, but that's when we have to take the bull by the horns and *choose* to do better. Every day we have to choose healthier for ourselves. Sometimes we win, sometimes we don't...but we *have to* keep up the good fight. You ARE worth this fight...and no matter how tired we get of having to battle with our own brain re-train, it IS worth it. Be good to you, in the healthiest ways possible!0

You were down 44 lbs, that's great! You've done it before, so you can DEFINITELY do it again! Don't beat yourself up, just analyze the habits/behaviours/stresses that caused you to gain, and try to fix them. You can do this!

It is not sabotage. It is burning less calories than you eat.
It is about a lifestyle change and everyday choices.0 -
44lbs is incredible - don't lose sight of that achievement. You can do it again! Keep positive and celebrate every victory0

Only you know the answer to that? Why do you?0 -
been there about a dozen times in my life. It is so easy to fall back into habits that we have formed (for me for over 40 yrs).
You know what to do, and know it works......so do it!
Logging onto here is a step in the right direction.
I can honestly say that when I get comfortable, or think "I got this" and stop logging, recording, and being 'semi-fanatical'...I regress.
Hate to say that you need to be fanatical about it, but you do need to make it a priority and establish good patterns of behavior.
for me anyway, I find when I re-commit I tend to be super successful so maybe think of it as giving your body a bit of a break, a reward, and get going! I don't recommend this but hey...if you can spin it into a positive go for it.0 -
I've been there! The whole "those 13 lbs. are going to be so hard to lose again, why bother?' trap is easy to fall into. BUT having lost 55 lbs. before and having gained it all back plus more, it is so much easier to lose the 13 again and then some than to let it go and have to lose the 44 again and then some.
You've done it before and you can get back on track! Don't get defeated because of a temporary lapse.0 -
I was down 40 pounds on here and haven't ever been a yo-yo dieter. I lost my last 20 pounds slowly and healthily. Then I went through a series of job schedule changes and wasn't able to adjust to less exercise by adjusting my calories. I continued to log. Stopped the gain for awhile then again got a new challenging work schedule again and gained again. I have finally started to get some more exercise in and adjust my calories to stop and turn the gain around but am struggling to establish a steady loss. My job schedule is steadier now but it changes some. It doesn't matter what the reason is for regaining. It is easy to gain weight and hard to lose it. Maintaining isn't so easy either. If you haven't already 1st stop the gain and maintain. Then when you are ready you know you can lose. Remember learning to maintain is as important as losing weight. Best wishes. I agree you can do this!0
