Little progress at the start of my journey

So I am trying to be patient. I have been on MFP for 2 weeks (I know, only 2 weeks). I have walked at 3.5 mph for over an hour every day. I have also swam a bit here and there. I am set up on the 1200 calorie plan to "lose 2 pounds a week". I have tracked every single thing for 2 weeks, never went over the 1200 limit. First week - lost 4.4 pounds. Hallelujah! Second week, lost .5 pound. I thought I would have more progress than that so early in the plan. I don't intend to give up, and granted, I have averaged 2 pounds a week over the initial 2 week period ... but if I only lose .5 pound a week here on out with 1200 calories and exercise every day ... that's a very slow road. (I have weighed every day, so don't think I'm retaining water or something unusual. Just stubborn and slow progress.) I'm 53 years old, 5'3" and 165 pounds (female). Just very frustrated right now.
Also, when I record my progress, MFP projects my weight loss at 5 pounds less in 5 weeks "If every day was like today." What the heck ... I thought that was supposed to be 2 pounds a week on a 1200 calorie a day diet. I guess it just all gets a lot more difficult the older you get.

  • It's very frustrating. I have only been doing this for 5 days, but with exercise and even rating under the 1200 cal limit, I have managed to GAIN 4 lbs! WTF! I am 51. 5'3" and now 159 lbs. I am not very encouraged right now.

It is a slower road than we would all like. I just hit 5lbs today. Will take it as it comes!

From what I hear, this sums it up pretty nicely...

I hate to break it to you, but it is highly unlikely you will lose at a rate much faster than 4.9 pounds in 2 weeks. That average is NOT 2 pounds a week, but 2.45 pounds a week. Sorry that isn't fast enough for you :(

i understand how u feel. i started two weeks ago and lost over three my first week. second week i stayed the same. but i know each week is different. next week im confident i will lose again. all that matters is overall i go in the right direction and im creating habits i can do for a lifetime. and im only 29 and struggle with the same issues. i will reach my goal though if i just stick with it.
