Start your day off with foods that keep you satiated like protein, fats, and fiber and save some calories later to indulge your sweet tooth in. This may mean limiting or eliminating triggers temporarily until you learn self control and manage your hunger better but keep in mind... you are always in control and the deciding factor on the decisions you make. This is something I live with when I get out of hand with cookies but I'm not addicted. I just sometimes plan my day badly and end up endlessly hungry. Those foods are palatable and tasty.0

I try just eating some fruits instead, or honey or using agave nectar. I have an insane sweet tooth and can eat bag after bag of candy. Carrots have helped also, my sugar cravings have became a lot less frequent, and I give in to them much less often.0

This.^^^ Learn to fit regular sized portions of sweets you love into your diet. Just fit them into your calories for the day. I eat a treat daily, and that cured me of binges and cravings. I know that if I want something I can have it and don't deprive myself. That's the only thing that has worked for me, but others will give you different advice I'm sure.

I started with breakfast - poached egg on wholegrain bread - with fruit and plain but mild tasting yogurt. Lunch multigrain crackers with cottage cheese, tomato, lettuce, an orange. Filling myself up early in the day with healthy foods is my key. I know if I deny myself, say "No you can't ever" I'm just setting myself up to fail because sooner or later I'll have a case of the "Phuckets" - when my head says "I'm going to do it anyway". So if I have a huge sugar craving, I eat one ounce of plain dark (72%) chocolate, followed by something else, maybe some fruit, nuts. Or two very plain, sweet cookies, followed by . . . you get the idea. I cut out the sugar in drinks, gradually, replacing them gradually one at a time with water - and got rid of caffeine at the same time. I still have one herbal tea sweetened with one teaspoon of honey in the late afternoon or early evening. The yogurt really helps, it seems to have helped reset my taste so that mildly tart no longer makes my mouth pucker and very sweet now tastes sickly. You have to find what's right for you, and be prepared to start again if you slip up. You don't have to be perfect and do it all at once. Not succeeding once doesn't mean you can't ever succeed. Some people are all or nothing, but that's not me. I backslide if I don't do it gradually. Like jnv7594, I don't do deprivation - I have learned not to punish myself. Good luck!0

I quit eating anything that had sugar in the ingredient list unless it was past the4th item for over a year. Then someone convinced me to try diet soda. After that I couldn't do it anymore. You have to stay away from sweeteners and eat natural sugars (fruit, etc). Anything else will make you crave sugar.0

I think moderation is key. Many people will say moderation is hard (read: -impossible-, but only because it doesn't work for THEM). It's sorta hard to make it a habit, but it's worth a try. It takes practice. If you can learn it you won't have to avoid sugar forever, because tying to avoid sugar can result in bingeing.
And really, why should you deprive yourself?0 -
Portion it out and only eat one serving. You just have to have dedication and self control. It gets easier.0

I do best by cutting it way down so I don't have routine access. I manage the cravings in the meantime with small sweet things -- an apple, a homemade hot cocoa with foamed milk and cinnamon, etc.
I hate when sweet becomes a habit or routine for me. When it no longer is, then I determine the role I *want* it to play in my life. Example, I never buy boxes of cookies, as I WILL develop a cookie habit that I dislike. I also gave up cereal and don't buy candy etc. But then sometimes I'll get a big cookie or a cupcake or piece of cheesecake from a lovely local bakery, for a treat. Way better for me for it to be a little event outside the home than a box or three in my cupboards.
But this would not work for everyone. I benefit a lot from structure and am not prone to a true binge in response to not getting a specific food.0 -

THIS! I have literally no self control when it comes to sugar. I had to completely cut it out of my diet so I stick to fruit when I get a craving.0 -
I cant do a lot of fruit because it's high in vit C and the acid content kills my stomach but I keep bag fulls of baby carrots in the fridge and for some reason that seems to take away any cravings I have. I also use local honey if I need to sweeten something, just a bit goes along way.0
