Is what I did a healthy way of 'cheating'? - junk food

I rarely eat junk food, I used to eat it in MASSIVE quantities everyday but now I never touch chocolate, crisps, cakes, drinks.. none of it, I've even gained the reputation of being a bit of health nut now from my family as I'm always seen eating healthily and saying 'no' to all junk. I now drink tons of water, eat fruit everyday, take supplements.. all that. It's hard for a chocolate-lover to go to nothing haha. Anyway, I hadn't eaten chocolate for about 4 months now, didn't even touch any junk food at Christmas, today I was alone and thought 'oh what the heck, I really miss the taste of chocolate so today I'll eat whatever I want, sick of everybody else eating it whilst I keep saying no to myself, I'm going to do what I want and go back to normal tomorrow!' It worked last time too, I ate junk one day then went off it for months as I was satisfied and happy.

I didn't end up eating anywhere near as much as I used to, I ate the equivalent of 2-3 chocolate bars (=660kcal) before I felt sick, felt it was enough and left. In the past, I could get through like 2 packs of 4 and have room for MORE! I don't even regret it because now I'm done feeling miserable about missing the taste of chocolate, and this should keep me going for another 3-4 months! What do you guys think? I used to feel guilty when I ate chocolate but right now, I just feel happy I did what I wanted for once and it motivates me to keep doing what I do.

If it works for you, then there's certainly no harm in having one day every few months where you eat a lot of chocolate. Don't call it "cheating", though, because that gives it a negative connotation and makes it seem like you should feel guilty for doing it.

I used to do that, I'd eat a little each day but I found I used to crave it all the time then and literally just count down the time until my next sugar fix. That's why I just cut it out completely, the cravings just went and I stopped thinking about it for months at a time. I'm enjoying indulging in it every few months really.
  • I try to eat chocolate or a treat everyday. It keeps me sane and helps me stick to it. I also have a dessert on Sundays. But sounds to me like your way is just another way of eating it in moderation. :)

I don't think you love chocolate as much as you think if you're giving it up for months at a time. If you do love it, you're 'cheating' yourself by not eating it when you can make it fit in your day if you want it. Good luck

Sorry, alot of people come here thinking they just absolutely cant eat xyz because they are trying to lose weight when that may not be the case. As far as I am concerned if you are having success then you are doing it right. Carry on :)

Hmm yes that's an interesting way of looking at it actually. My mother tells me I've never been a chocolate eater and apparently when I was younger, I wasn't really big on junk food and just disliked it in general so I'm not sure why I randomly started eating it a lot last year, maybe it was stress and chocolate tasted good so I went a bit crazy with it. It's definitely something I could potentially live without but it tastes SO GOOD, I just have to treat myself sometimes or I sort of forget the taste :P. Good luck to you too.
