edited February 2015 in Goal: Maintaining Weight
I've just started the maintaining process by upping my calories by 200 for the past week, (was on 1250, now on 1450) I am 8lbs under my target weight so I wouldn't mind gaining anything whilst figuring out what my maintenance calories are, but my question is, when I step on the scales tomorrow, obviously I know if I've lost I can then up my calories again, but I know there's a good chance of maintaining or gaining before my body loses the water weight, so do I then carry on at the 1450 calories or still up them by another 200? Or wait another week and see? MFP says my maintain calories should be 1900, so am working on getting it up to there! Thanks in advance.

Keep adding weekly until you find the correct level where your weight stays in a range to allow for normal daily (and monthly) fluctuations).
8lbs under goal is a lot!

My suggestion is to change your MFP goals one level at a time for instance if you are at losing 1.5 lbs a week change it to losing 1 lb a week and so forth. Basically what the reply above said just in a different way. I am basically in maintenance but I am keeping it at -.5 lbs per week to allow for some flexibility like nibbling some pistachios or a couple skittles now and then.

If your eating at a surplus then your not in MX. If youre trying to gain 8 lbs then you need to keep your surplus 200 and up. I don't know if 1 week of a surplus would show results but everyones different. personally for me I wait 2 weeks before changing my surplus amount. Also, you cant get an accurate result with 1 scale measurement.
