Am I alone in feeling like this??

So i can not be the ONLY one on here, although at times i feel as if I am.
When i was younger as in from 4 yrs till about 20 I had eating disorders. Long story short, I got pregn. and fell in love with food :) good thing i gained weight, bad i gained 94 lbs in less then 8 months. With 4 lbs to go to lose last of the baby weight and 20 to go to make me happy, I Now I have a hard time, either I eat EVERYTHING in site or I cant bring myself to eat and eat way under. I have a hard time finding a happy medium. Any one else out there like this or am I just a crazy person :) Heck I would be happy with ppl who dont just criticize or judge me. Just looking for some support I guess. Or this could just be a random crazy lady vent lol .

  • Hi there, You are not crazy. My favorite activity is chewing, I swear. I guess you and me too, have an eating disorder... compulsive overeating. I have gained an average of 5 pounds a year for my adult life so now I am very overweight. I love to eat and I know how you feel. Be happy that you are not as heavy as me. I don't know why I eat everything in sight... I feel like a heroin addict without the high. Now I am tracking what I eat and am hoping to chew on celery instead of anything else. I also fill a glass with ice and chew on that. Good Luck!

Gum gum and gum! Lots of different flavors and it's more it's hard to eat the 1200 cals that I hate

This sounds like binge-eating disorder. Considering you have a previous history of eating disorders i would probably go see someone who specializes in this field.

It could be binge eating disorder, especially considering there's a history. However, it also sounds like something lots of dieters experience: seeing food as evil and essentially shunning calories until their bodies are screaming for nutrition, then going on a massive binge. I'm of the belief that binges are often hormonal as well as psychological, and when your hormones are intent on telling you to get carbs and fat, they'll usually get their way. We're only animals, after all.

Even when eating at a caloric deficit, in theory your body should still be receiving enough fuel to function properly--the idea is to create a small deficit (20% or less) that will encourage your body to start depleting fat stores, but still keep it running smoothly. That's something I think MFP is fantastic for: you know your body is getting enough of each kind of fuel because you can see the numbers.

Have you tried making sure you're getting enough fat, protein, and carbs? If there are psychological issues at play, professional help might be prudent; but if these binges are more physiological in nature, a balanced diet could quiet down those cravings.
