The foods that are best for you are the ones you enjoy and can fit into your calories

    Weight loss = calorie deficit.
Getting lean = calorie deficit + doing what you can to retain lean body mass(getting enough protein, resistance training, etc).

    Some basic info:
    1gram of protein = 4 calories.
    1gram of carb = 4 calories.
    1gram of fat = 9 calories.

I advocate eating mostly whole foods, while allowing yourself treats. 80%-90% of your calories coming from whole foods and about 10-20% of your calories for whatever. Why I advocate eating mostly whole foods is because they generally keep you more full and have more micronutrients(vitamins & minerals). You can get lean and lose weight eating a lot of "junk food", but these types of food generally eat up a lot of your calories while not keeping you full. The worst part of losing weight is being hungry, so I find it's best eating things that will keep you full while allowing yourself treats to keep your sanity.
