Hi all,

If attempting to lose weight and using diet whey protein shakes for a meal replacement, how much protein should I be looking to limit my consumption to.

I am worried that the shakes plus a chicken breast and veg or something similar will result in me consuming too much protein and this contradicts my aims.

If by "too much protein" you mean it goes over the protein goal MFP sets, don't worry about it. MFP defaults to 15% of your calories from protein which in my opinion is far too low. I manually set my goal to a more reasonable 30%. I usually eat 90-105 grams of protein each day.

When losing weight I eat more protein than normal. It has several benefits in that if you are weightlifting it helps maintain muscle mass and strength, and its more filling than carbs or fats so easier to feel full on less calories. When cutting I eat 1 gram of protein per lb of LBM.

Its near impossible to eat too much protein. I have a hard time seeing anyone accomplish it unless you do something extreme and crazy. Most people find that by increasing their protein intake they feel fuller longer. Also, eating protein helps maintain muscle mass which you want to try to keep while you lose the fat. Lift some weights and munch as much protein as you want.
