So I have been having heel pain for about 6 months now. Well I finally went to the dr after putting it off. I have Achilles tendinitis and a bone spur behind the tendon on both feet! No high impact exercising/treadmill/walking etc and I'm taking anti-inflamatories. I have to go back in 2 weeks and they are going to see about custom orthotics.. The only cure he said for the bone spur is sugery which is 3 months of crutches, which is impossible with a 10 month old baby... Well I guess I'm at a stand still now with exercising... Not sure what happens when I go back in 2 weeks.

As far exercising goes: Do you have access to a pool to swim? Or would you be able to use a stationary bike?

I am having heel pain and issues too but only on my left foot. Good to know what it may be. I've been putting off the doc about it too.

ive had achillis tendontitis more times than I care to think about - I know it sucks big time. I found massage therapy works wonders and if you can find a good physio therapist, that might help as well.

try swimming, or if you can't swim, try running in water etc. you can always do weights and upper body work too.

    good luck...i feel your pain!

Ouch! I sent this to you in a friend request message, but get good shoes (once you get the all-clear from your doc). You're still young and you should heal (har har) relatively quickly. I'm sorry that you have to go through surgery. Perhaps some water activities, swimming, water aerobics (if they offer them at your gym) would be easier on your joints and keep you active until you're able to use your ankle again?

Wear shoes with about an inch to an inch and a half heels, not completely flat but not high either. Go to your pharmacy and ask them if they sell gel heel inserts to put inside your shoes they dont cost much. I know Scholl make some but don't know if you get Scholl where you live, if not I'm sure they will sell something similar. They don't cure the problem but they do make a big difference to the intensity of the pain

Pool, the arm cycle machine, standing shadow boxing w/the upper body can get your heart rate up, and I'd still do some strength training moves to keep you in a routine.
I work in a Physical Therapy office and we use the stationary bike for people alllllll the time who are not allowed to weight bear or to do high impact stuff.

Thanks guys! I'm definitely not going to go the surgery route, unless I absolutely need to of course because recovery is way too long! I don't have access to a pool, but I do have an elliptical I wonder if that would be ok? I think what caused this is starting off way to quickly after having a baby and being totally out of shape. I went right into 30 day shred and I think all the jumping may have caused this. I haven't done the shred in months, and it still bothers me daily. I know lots of you guys love the shred, and yeah it did work, but I should have tried something less impact at first. He also said during pregnancy your ligaments and bones move, so thats another reason why this happened. I will keep doing strength training though thats for sure!
