I'm new--Is this right for my allowed calories??

Hi. I entered my personal info and goals, and it only shows that I'm allowed 760 calories per day. That seems really low to me. Although I can eat more when I exercise, what about the days I don't exercise? Is anyone else finding these kinds of numbers? Thanks!

That doesn't sound right. What's sure is that you probably don't have much to lose and are setting a goal that's way too aggressive. Switch to half a pound a week.0

There is also a glitch in the system that they are working on that is causing these low calculations.0

Thanks! I was very careful not to go over my calories after my workout today. Then when I went to complete my day, it would not post or calculate my 5 week approximation because I didn't eat enough. Frustrating! So I ate a banana to push it over 1,000 just to calculate.0

Shoot. I feel like I'm starving at 2200. I couldn't imagine 760. Lol0

No. MFP should not be giving goals under 1200 calories, it's been broken for the past couple weeks. Readjust you goal to half a pound a week, since it sounds like you don't have very much to lose.0

You done goofed, kid, badly.0

Apparently it's not working properly... Find another calorie calculator on google and set your goal manually0

Ok. I'll try to use a few different calculators to see an average of where I should be. My goal is going from 128 to 115 lbs.
Sure, I'd love to lose 2 lbs per week, but really, as long as it keeps going down, I'm good with any number per week.
I know 760 calories is excessively low. What I wasn't sure about is if it was normal to eat 1200 calories if I had exercised and burned 420, for example. That still seemed way too low to me to be working out and only eating that much.
I did Insanity a couple years ago, and I learned so much about good/bad foods, but everything was weighed, bagged, and measured instead of counting calories.
Thanks to those who have responded positively.0 -
MFP needs to FIX THIS. It's one thing for people to get a low allotment because they've set their goals too aggressively, but there is no excuse for this glitch. (Even if a user IS being too aggressive with their loss goal, MFP is supposed to go no lower than 1200, I believe. There is something wrong with the 'puter.)0

My thoughts exactly. If this is supposed to be a health app, it could be dangerous for people who have no clue what they're doing (i.e. Me, lol). I came here for tracking, advice, and support. I'm glad I asked and saw that I can/should eat more. I'm hungry.0

I agree with @malibu927, with only 13lbs to lose it's not going to come off quickly.
I second the suggestion to change your loss rate to 0.5lbs/week. It's much more realistic and allows you to eat more as you lose. Also, if you log exercise from the MFP database, they overestimate the calorie burn significantly so if you eat back exercise cals, stick to roughly half of them depending on how you're feeling that day0 -

In the meantime use another calculator. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure is maintenance). This includes exercise so you won't log it (or use zero). TDEE gives you a daily average so you don't have the up / down or rest vs. exercise.

Back out 500 calories a day for 1 pound a week, 750 for 1.5 pound per week, and if you have a long ways to go (75+ pounds) you can back out 1,000.
You don't have far to go......250 or 500 calories a day less than maintenance would be a good goal.0 -
They say if your on a diet you should eat a min' of 1,000 a day, I dont know about the rest but thats what it comes up on my food diary thing, hope this helps0

I would really like to see MFP fix this glitch. We've been seeing a lot of posters confused by their low calorie suggestions and it's just dangerous.0

BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years). For men, BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years).

Whoa, definitely not. I would calculate your BMR and TDEE (google will bring up these calculators) and go from there. I don't know your age/height/weight, but if it helps any I'm a 20 year old girl, 5'4, 130 pounds, and I eat around 2,000 calories daily and I'm maintaining weight while leaning out my physique (I also workout 4-5 days a week). When I was on a low calorie diet (1200-1400 a day) I didn't lose weight at all, I was just miserable and unhealthy.0

@k_sey have you tried one of the online calculators? If so, what numbers did you get?0
-
I think that if you sign in on the web instead, and go into your settings and such, even if you change nothing, it will re-set you to what MFP would have given you if the app weren't glitching.
I don't remember the exact fix -- whether just going in does it or whether you have to redo your goals. But the web version is supposedly working, so you can try and see if it'll reset and stick for you!0
