Huge differences in nutritonal info.

Am I alone or are there others who find the variances in the nutritional info frustrating.

Tonight, I wanted to record having had 250g of boiled potatoes. Firstly, it took me an age to find an entry that matched the type of measuring system I use eg Most of the entries were by potato size or cupfuls. I weigh everything!!

Secondly, when I did find suitable entries I then had to input 5 different ones onto my diary before I found one that matched the nutritional content that was on the bag that my potatoes came in. One entry showed a calorie content difference of over 100 calories!!

Trying to count calories is difficult enough without having to "vet" every entry before adding to our diary.

I think that there should be a "report" button so we can eradicate, not only the incorrect entries but also, the seemingly dozens of duplicates.

Sorry for the rant but it took me ages to input tonight's meal and I don't want frustration with the system to put me off my goals.

    Hmmm.

    Firstly, yes you can edit or report something that's blatantly wrong.

    But secondly, you have to remember that everything you enter is an estimate - it's impossible to be completely accurate with the amount you're weighing, and no two 5 oz steaks are going to have exactly the same amount of fat anyway...so a difference of 100 cals isn't really that significant.

    I HAVE reported instances when the carb content of a crispbread was out by a factor of 100, though.

    Why did you have to input five different versions into your food diary? You can check the nutritional info without actually adding them.

    1) search for what you're looking for
    2) Click on the specific item you're interested in
    3) On the right hand side of the screen, right underneath the name of the food you'll see a blue link: "nutritional info" (it's pretty small) --> click on that, and the nutritional info will pop up. You can pick the serving type and enter the number of servings to see what the nutrition info looks like for how much you ate.

    @AccountantBoi,
    Thanks for that info. I'm not the most technically savvy so info like that helps. Cheers

    when that happens to me, i put it into the system myself so that way i can type in the exact brand of what i'm eating (if it's not on there) and always find mine and i'll know it's right

    I search the Food Database first, then remember the way the food is named, and then enter it into my diary. I also use the US food guide at

    http://www.myfoodapedia.gov/

    you can enter most foods here and it will give you the weight or measure by goofy US standards.

    I found that issue too! I usually google it and find out what other sources say too!

    @Melaniecheeks,
    I appreciate that certain foods will differ but I don't expect there to be a difference of nearly 150 calories on 250g of plain boiled spuds. Also WW crackers that my wife ate today were listed at completely the wrong amount of calories. It just makes it confusing and frustrating.

    This is exactly right, so once uve clcke on the blue link, u can use which ever potato one u chose, u just then have to decided whether it would be 5 servings of that one or 1 serving, depending on what the blue lnk informs u, so that it matches what u want it to say, rather then trying to find one that already matchs perfectly, the idea is u change the serving amount to suit ur meal :-)
