Jogged 1km and only one. Just went half way. Am TOO sore from work out yesterday and I slid straight down the stairs this morning which really hurt my one ankle and thigh. I still jogged though and have a few good bruises now :grumble:

Sorry to hear about your fall. :frown: Hope you're not too sore too long.

No run today, work out and ab routine this morning.

I only ran 1.5 miles today. I am just too emotionally drained right now, and stress has elevated my resting heartrate. But I also walked another mile, and did the stair climber on level 5 for 15 minutes, so a total of 52 minutes of cardo today. Not too bad, right?

Wow... you all make me feel like such a slacker! After taking time off from running after an ankle injury, I started again on the treadmill.

Last night, I did 12 minutes at 6.8 mph and 10 minutes at 6.9 mph, followed by 10 minutes walking 3.6 mph with 2.5 lb dumbbells - I do tricep extensions, with some effort not to hyperextend, since my trainer told me it's damaging.

I could go longer without stopping, but I get so distracted. Last night it was because the girl next to me was striking the belt so hard - BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! The night before, someone in the gym had set the radio to this smooth jazz station - not exactly running music - and I hate to blast my iPod over that. I don't want to go deaf.

Yes, I am a whiner. :grumble:

Wow, you're so fast! Normally, on a non-emotionally wrecked day , I do 3 miles at 6.0 mph. Occasionally, I can get to 4 miles at the same speed, sometimes a little less. My first goal is to just run the 4 miles the way I run 3 now - without problems every day (like I said, minus the days like today)

Corinthians, Sorry that you're having such a tough day. Just looked at your profile - good luck on a 10K!

My pace is usually between 6.7 mph (warmup) to 7.3 mph. I used to run at 6 mph - I guess I figured that the 10-minute mile was where I needed to be. But I found that it was actually easier on my body to run faster, with my feet spending less time on the ground and more time in the air.

So, I know you're feeling blue... but think blue skies (they're the limit) and try increasing your speed for a minute or two during your run... You might be surprised by how it makes you feel.

Sometimes I get in a phase (a funk really) where I run only because it's the most efficient way to burn calories. But then I remember to bring back the joy in it: the feeling of playing tag as a kid, of racing and chasing - that's how running is supposed to feel! I bet we can all go a little faster if we stay light on our feet... none of that CLOMP! CLOMP! CLOMP!-ing that this girl next to me was doing.

And if you ever hear yourself running and it reminds you of a noisy nightclub, take a moment to think about your strike - that is, how your foot hits the ground or the belt of the treadmill. You should NOT be hitting it with your heel! Either the whole foot, with more stress on the ball, or just the ball of the foot! It will make a big difference in how high you need to set the volume on your iPod - and on the stress your knees and shins take! Not to mention your speed and endurance.

My recommendation for all runners: have a coach or at least someone in a shoe store watch you run and give you a gait analysis. Most injuries are caused by bad form (or ill-fitting shoes).

Hi y'all! I did 6 this morning and felt great.
  • Hello all!

I did drills with my training group tonight and then a 30 minute tempo run.

Just finished a punishing multi-machine workout:

    11 min elliptical, 80 rpm
10 min recumbent cycle, 20 mph
    10 min treadmill, 6.8 mph
20 min treadmill, 3.6-4.0 mph with incline of 4-10

    I'm beat!
