"New" to working out again.

I walk 2x a week, once in the morning for 10 minutes and again in the evening for 20 minutes. On the 20-minute walk only, my left leg (from just below the knee to my ankle) is badly cramping, to the point where I have to stop repeatedly...which gets discouraging. Do I need to lessen the time/distance or just take things slower that walk?? I walked at 6pm tonight and it is still "crampy" feeling an hour and a half later. What the heck do I do?? I'm so new to this stuff.

my leg does this to. i try to walk everyday for 30 minutes, and usually about 1/2 way through, i get a cramping, burning pain right above my right ankle. i find if i slow down my pace, i am fine. don't know what's causing it, i've tried stretching ahead of time, but it doesn't seem to matter. i would slow your pace, see if it helps :-]

Do you have good walking shoes? I got horrible shin splints when I was wearing cheap sneakers (seriously cheap, like $15). I upgraded to decent New Balance sneakers, and the problem totally went away. Just a thought.
