I have a question? What is the best fish to eat. Growing up I have always ate talipia and whiting, but I just heard someone tell me that (well talipia mostly) is the worse fish to eat. Is this true? Are their alternatives to good healthy fish with reguard to my poskets?

I don't care for tilapia because although it seemed really nice when I first bought it years ago, it's now kind of dirty tasting. I love cod because it's a mild fish that is really nice with spices, rubs, lemon, even a little butter and parsley. Cod is also a good fish to use in a seafood jambalaya.

Our favorite is orange roughy though. But it's expensive these days, so we don't have it as often as I'd like. And salmon is always good -- high in good fats, so we have that about once a week. Most seafood is so expensive these days, but when I see grouper on sale, I always buy it. Grouper is a really delicious fish.

Curious -- what did this person mean by "worst?" Worst tasting? Worst because it's the cheapest? Worst because it's not filled with fat?

I eat tilapia and I enjoy it. I get the frozen fillets that are in marinade or sauce and I eat it over rice. Satisfying... Lots of protein.

Explain "worst"... do you mean mercury levels?

I buy whatever is on sale at the grocery store.

    If it's under $4 a pound, I'm in.

My local stores are pretty limited. There is only tilapia, flounder and salmon. Flounder tastes good, but it definitely is more "fishy" than the others IMO. I think tilapia is almost bland in a good way, easier to influence the taste with seasoning or sauces. Salmon usually costs more, but is the best on its own.

I think she's talking about this. Tilapia is fairly low in mercury if I'm remembering correctly. Shark and swordfish would be the worst if you're measuring that. There are a fair amount of people out there that won't eat tilapia because of its living conditions but ehh, it's not as if I particularly trust the living conditions the chickens I eat were raised in.

Basa fillets are my new favorite fish to eat. I bake it in the oven with smoked paprika and have it with mashed sweet potato and a green veggie.

I'm not sure what you mean by better or worse. I eat a lot of salmon and hake.
