I am thinking about buying a fitness tracker, fitbit, vivofit, jawbone , or ? Do you have any suggestions as to which would be the best buy for a 73 year old swimmer? How does it know that I am swimming as opposed to having a shower, or is this a stupid question? Are some more comfortable to wear than others?

there is only 1 limitation. As I have a metal allergy I must be careful not to buy one that has metal next to the skin. Thanks in anticipation.

#1 requirement, I'd think based on what you said, is a water proof aspect. Many are water resistant but I am not sure that would be adequate. Polar Loop is water proof. Not sure if others are. My husband has a Polar Loop, I don't think the wrist contact is metal? Can't look right now as I'm at work & he is at home.

I think they all use various technology, to sense movement. Pretty sure movement while in the shower is different from movement in a pool. :) I don't really understand how they work in a technical sense. Personally I use a Fitbit One - which is not water proof or water resistant so it certainly would not work for you. Most trackers are fancy pedometers and track step movement, and have you log other things. But I think the Loop is designed to pick up different forms of activity.
