Chia Seeds and Humic-Fulvic Minerals

Hi
I have recently started taking 2 supplements that have made a big difference to my energy, my sleep and my general well-being - Chia Seeds, and Humic-Fulvic Minerals - but have just come across some unsettling claims about both. Can anyone throw any light on these? Hopefully they are just scaremongering....
1 - Chia seeds - these have definitely given me more energy when I have needed it most, and I have read loads and loads of articles about the health benefits of these seeds, especially if they are raw and organic, and soaked overnight. But yesterday, I came across this article from a Paleo site. The author seems to have very hardline opinions and axes to grind, but still, he claims that taking chia seeds over the long term can be hazardous. What he says goes against everything else I have read, but if he is right, it is alarming. Can anyone offer any thoughts?

2 - Humic-Fulvic minerals - These are natural wholefood minerals from a very pure source that have noticeably helped particularly my sleep from the first day I took them. However, I have found out that it is critically important HOW they are taken. They become carcinogenic when mixed with chlorinated water, or even with food containing it. What I have not been able to find out it HOW MUCH chlorine in the water is dangerous. Even mineral water contains 5-15mg/litre of chlorine - is this dangerous? If it is taken away from water altogether, when is it then safe to drink water again? Does anybody know?
Thanks
Guy

Sounds like you need to just stop taking the Humic-Fulvic minerals (whatever the eff those are). At best, they are totally unnecessary; at worst, they are dangerous.
Get your minerals from whole foods, OP. There is no reason to take a potentially dangerous supplement for a perceived health benefit, which is more than likely a placebo effect anyway.0 -
90% of supplements aren't needed. The advertising and "benefits" are well exaggerated by sellers and why the industry is a billion dollar industry. Also take into account that since they aren't regulated, you could be taking anything from baking soda to some contaminated (not pure) ingredient with very low values of purported potency.
Get your daily essentials from what you eat and drink and don't worry about spending unecessary amounts of money on supplements that may not even have any effect.

Being a gardener and a soil science geek, I thought something sounded odd here.
From the wiki page in the attached link:
"Humic and fulvic acids (fulvic acids are humic acids of lower molecular weight and higher oxygen content than other humic acids) are commonly used as a soil supplement in agriculture, and less commonly as a human nutritional supplement. "
Humic acid is a VERY good thing for soil. It is the reason forest soils are so great. As a nutritional supplement, I can't imagine it does any good beyond lining the pockets of the people who sell it.

Don't know about Humic and fulvic acids ... but do know some about Chia Seeds .... however I haven't read the report you provided a link to. This is what I know about Chia seed .... DO NOT eat them dry!
I use chia seed in my smoothies or in my porridge when I want to up the fiber in the food ... the porridge is cooked with the chia seed in it, the smoothies whirr the chia seed along with everything else and provide a thickness to the drink that pleasant. All I ever use at one time is 1 Tblsp.
