Has anyone any idea approxiamately how many calories would be burnt at an hours body pump class? I have found lots of different answers. Also has anyone else actually tried this class and did it help with weight / fat loss? xxx

Really depends on your height and weight and the amount of weight you use but if it's any help I'm 5ft 5ins and weigh 149ls and burn approximately 350 cals in a pump class.

Only real way to know is to invest in a hrm

I do body pump twice a week, and my calories burn vary from 300-400 for 1 hour. It really depends on how much weight i'm pushing and how much effort i put in for squats and lunges etc. only way of truly knowing is getting a hrm :)

    Hi

I tend to burn about 300-400 cals per session. (I'm a size 20 and not quite brave enought to admit my weight yet!!!) Dependant on what they have on the programs. EG at the moment there are lots of clean and presses which raises my pulse quite a bit - so at the moment I find I am burning more calories in the back track.

As far as weight loss is concerned - in isolation it didn't help with weight loss BUT had a dramatic shape change and lost inches. Teamed with other cardiovascular exercises I think Body pump gives you and edge on helping weight loss. Hope that helps.

  • It says around 390 on the Les Mills website for women so that's what I enter x
  • Hi, I agree with sunshine. Heart rate monitor is a very good investment. I have one and from time to time i leave it on for all day to see how many calories i burn throughout the day. Every person will burn different amount of calories doing exactly the same exercise as it depends on so many factors: your height, weight, fitness level, how hard you push yourself and many more.
  • I do pump 3 times a week and burn around 400 cals.It depends how much ya lifting hun and the effort ya put into it!!The pthing with pump is its very much like weight lifting where it will carry on burning calories for hours later think its 48hrs!! So ya still burning cals after ya done!!I noticed a big change more in toneing when i started pump my shoulders and arms are so much more defined even with bad bingo wings!!I do body pump and pump fx which is almost the same hun.If you are going to try it ya have to give it at least 2-3 weeks before you decide if ya like it or not hun and always start on the lowest weight and build up as beleive me if ya start on a heavier weight about 48hrs later ya gonna feel it!!Ya may think its too light for ya but for ya first few times its not,i know most of this because my freinds teach it and i have been doing it for years too!!And have to say its one of my favorite classes!!!

On a good day 350 i hit 400 once but its usually 270 to 290 blot of burn happens after the class
  • I don't heave a HRM (EDIT this was meant to say 'have', but I'm thinking 'heave' works too lol), although seeing so many mentions on here, I'm seriously thinking of investing in one.
I did Body Pump for a couple or three months last year, and after just 5/6 classes the difference in my legs was astounding. They went from chubby and flabby, to toned and shapely - still big, granted, but looked fantastic!
There's only one place in a 50 mile radius that offeres BP, and the times of classes are dead awkward, so I've not been for ages, and I miss it :(

Thanks guys :) Really enjoyed the class and will definately go back! - will invest a HRM too :)

I felt the weights were a little light for me (the instructor told me to start the lightest) but that's ok - will work my way up!

Thanks again for the advice :flowerforyou:
  • Thats what i said hun ya have to start at the lightest and it may seem light but if ya had gone heavier you would have known about it about saturday afternoon x glad u enjoyed it like i said great thing about pump is it carrys on burning after the class!!!
