A colleague of mine is about to embark on a 'diet' that says he will lose 9kg in 13 days. Is this practical? Is it even possible? Is it Dangerous?

My answers are No, No and Yes: even if it's 30 days. What do you think?

  • It will all be water. No fat.

I doubt he can even lose that much in water, unless he is like 300kg to begin with. Out of interest, what is this 'diet'?

At around 140-150 I was able to drop 10lbs of water.

OP - like others said, it is possible. The majority will not be fat and most of it will come flying back on day 14 when he has a normal meal.

If he loses anything like that it will be water weight. He'll also likely be miserable and put it all back on.

That would require a 5331 calorie deficit per day. So he is going to eat 0 calories per day for 13 days, and exercise off an additional 3000? Or eat 1200 and exercise off 4200? (assuming his TDEE is around 2300)

This should probably be shown and explained to everyone who is thinking about doing one of these 'diets'.

Yep - it is basically impossible to lose that much fat in 13 days.

Well, depending on what he has in his colon .......

I dropped 9 pounds in 16 hours the last time I had to prep for a colonoscopy. Ack - revolting!

Well hell why take 13 days when you can lose 9kg in 9 days (http://www.wikihow.com/Lose-up-to-9-KG-in-9-Days-on-a-Rice,-Fruit,-Vegetable-Diet)

And you can eat all you want (i.e. can stand) of unsalted rice for the first 3 days! LOL ...and as much unsalted vegetables as you want for the next 3 days, followed by as much fruit as you want on the last 3 days.

Sounds like the Survivor diet, minus the vegs and fruits.

Seriously, who on earth created this Wiki page????

    I think the answer is:

    C. How does that affect you?

Doesn't he say his friend is doing this? That's how it affects him.

Also OP maybe slap your friend around, hit him on the nose with a news paper and tell him "No! Bad boy!" And then show him this post.

I lost 9lbs in one day, named it, and brought it home with me.

So I assume your friend must be expecting. Is it his first?

Copy of diet attached. Personally I prefer the simple and logical approach. Eat less of whatever you normally eat and do more exercise: Each tot heir own I suppose.

Whoever designed that diet doesn't know what they're talking about. Unless this guy is morbidly obese, I don't see any possible way for this diet to result in a 9kg loss and certainly not a 20kg loss. Maybe a 3kg loss, but even that is generous.

Of course it is possible, but I don't think that chopping off an arm is such a good idea.
