what motivated you in the beginning, and what keeps you going?

Just curious what really motivated you in the beginning and what keeps you going? I have a bad habit of starting and giving up pretty quickly, rarely ever losing any weight. I also find myself making excuses to start over like every other day. I'm looking for ideas from people who have been able to stay on course for the long run & what helped.
Thanks!

I started having chest pains. Most likely from stress, but either way I came to the blunt realization that something was going to have to give.

I started out just wanting to loose 20 lbs. My first goal was 160 after i reached that 20 lbs. When i reached that i decided 150 would be better. I then reached that goal and thought 140 would be better. I'm now just taking off 5 more lbs to have some room on the body mass index scale =) how about you just try to take off 5 lbs then see how you feel. No need to eat the whole cake in one sitting!

I have suit and a shirt in the closet. I can honestly say, that the last time I felt somewhere good about my reflection and myself was when I could wear it. I have come to the conclusion, that to really get the best out of being in love with your partner, you have to be best friends with yourself!

So I have this as motivation, I simply want to be friends with myself again ;)

You are welcome to knock if you need a chat!

I had a car accident, the photos of the injuries were on a body I didn't recognize. I think that's what started me off without being consciously aware. I started eating more veggies, going for walks to burn off my lunch breaks during warm summer nights which led to more healthy choices. It's been a 14 year process if I say I started then so there have been many things. Adult onset diabetes was discovered on both sides of my family so that made me more aware of my sugar intake, result a few more shed pounds. Moved a few states from "home" and to make new friends joined WW, why not, other chubby people looking to lose weight, seemed like a good idea. Didn't really make new friends but I discovered I didn't exactly hate myself anymore. Lost some weight, felt good, gained a few back and had knee pain, dropped a few and no knee pain so then it became drop enough so knee pain was no longer an option. That was the latest push a little over 2 years ago and from there I've just kept going, I had never run a mile straight so that was something to push for, completed that and said ok what else can I attempt, did a few mud runs and thought now this is fun, so went out and signed up for Mudderella which meant real training, had to know I could lift my butt up and over obstacles and support my own weight. Now I just keep on going, I worked too hard to get here to let anything cause a downslide.

I started because I wanted to represent superheros the best I could when cosplaying at comic conventions. What keeps me going is learning new physical hobbies, like bo staff, and completing challenges, like insanity.

When I started... my main motivation was to look like Vin Diesel in Riddick (yep...childish dream =D) ,in time I realized that training ,having good healthy habits ,eating clean and being more active it just feels great. And what keeps me going -well when I stop I feel really bad, like something is missing from me ,like a limb is torn apart (without the physical pain of course). Everything above ... it became my lifestyle .

I was going to be turning 45 soon. Getting stronger keeps me motivated.
