The 20-something Slump

So here I am 25. Not necessarily obese, but definitely feeling overweight. I've gained 30 pounds since 21, and I am 5'9" - I am 180 pounds! The weight crept up nice and slow, and I'm tall so the people around me barely noticed. But here I am, getting married in 14 months. I need all the support I can get. It's time to feel good again, and prove to myself I can lose the weight! :| Before I start having babies and struggle even further to lose the weight. I feel like it's my chance to prove to myself that I can do this.

It's just hard as hell. With career and commuting, scheduling work out time is tough. And eatting right is even tougher.

Let's do this thing!

    My metabolism took a nose dive in my mid-20s. I weighed about 160 or so when I got out of the Navy, and was up to 235 by the time I graduated college 7 years later.

    On the positive side, I probably reached my pinnacle of fitness in my 30's. I regret not sustaining that, but we'll see what I can do in my mid-40s

    Wow. Your story sounds exactly like mine! (Except I am male). I weighed 145 at the age of 21 and did triathlon/marathons. Now I am 25 and weigh 175 and can barely run a mile.

    Getting married in July of 2016 and hope to be at 155!

    It's scary to get married and feel at my worst. So I am trying to get at my best to show my fiance he's marrying someone who can push herself! I pack my breakfast and snacks for the day, but dinner is a tough one cause I have a full house with a lot of different appetites. My mom cooks for the house, and I have to control my portions. When I was a kid you had to eat fast or you wouldn't get anything!

    Thank you for the support! I went to the gym to do a weight training class yesterday and today I'm going to walk and barely run my neighborhood. Baby steps! What are you favorite workouts?
  • What are some healthy snacks and foods we can offer eachother?

    My go to breakfast is Organic Oatmeal with Chia seeds or greek yogurt with Chia seeds. I just put a spoonful and that's helps me digest. Also I always have prunes in my desk. I try to add a lot of fiber, so I don't feel so bloated all the time.

    You know what I miss? French fries. I really really miss those sucker. I ordered sweet potato fries on saturday, good but still limited myself.

    I never noticed any metabolism decrease, I'm 35 now and hit my (to date) healthiest three years ago, I then overrated and lost it all. I'm 5'8 and currently am 168, down from 180 a few months ago.I'm hoping to kick behind one last time before maintaining for good!

    Thank you! That's awesome and really motivating! And makes me feel like I'm totally just making excuses - which is a good thing. 168 sounds amazing from my 180, and in a few months sounds like a reasonable amount of time. That is my biggest goal is maintaining!

    I want to know I can do this before I have kids and my schedule gets even crazier!

    Unlike many people, I actually ended up gaining almost 8 pounds before my wedding, but I still have wonderful memories from it and I truly do love the pictures and how happy I looked, even if I wasn't at my peak physically. Now 6 years and one baby later, I am the happiest with my body I've ever been. It's all a journey - 14 months is plenty of time to do it smart, take it off in a sustainable way and not crash diet. You'll do great!

    That's really awesome! Hey, if you did it with a baby and you're at your happiest with your body, then I honestly feel a little better. I think the tough part is getting and keeping a groove, but I started going to my spin and weight class again, so baby steps! 2-3 lbs a month seems pretty do-able
