Hi all!

I am just looking for some tips or links so I can learn more about getting into lifting.

How do I start? Are squats/lunges and push-ups a good place? Resistance bands? Is there a number or reps I should do or just until fatigue? I have been walking regularly but I would like to add some muscle building. Any tips are much appreciated!

Thank you!

Pick a full body beginner's program after reading through the details of several. Then either refer to their books or websites or youtube or bodybuilding.com for visual guides/videos on form.

    A few possible programs:

    Stronglifts 5x5
New Rules of Lifting for Women*
    Starting Strength*
    Strong Curves*
    All Pro's Simple Beginner Plan
    Ice Cream Fitness
    Greyskull LP

You can Google to find the details on all. The ones with an * are books but you can also find details online.
  • I can't comment on the others but Stronglifts 5x5 has a great website, youtube videos, a free app that takes all the guess work out, and downloadable spreadsheets if you don't have a smartphone. You do basic compound movements (squat, bench press, barbell row, overhead press, deadlift) starting with just the bar and adding 5 pounds each workout. The idea is for it to be super easy when you start so you can get your form perfected. I've been doing the program since July and am pleased with the results.
