This puts a new spin on before and after photos...

I will be even more distrustful of advertisements I see in the future...if that is even possible. On the plus side, this does demonstrate the importance of good posture. Want to lose 20 pounds? Stand up straight! LOL! Btw, the little video is very amusing if you want to see the process.

I took part in a group diet for a magazine before and for the before shot they had us in unflattering clothes and told us to slump our shoulders a bit. Two weeks later I'm fairly sure not a single one of us lost weight, we took a second picture. Totally different clothes and postures. We looked a size or more smaller.0

Sometimes advertisements take the after pictures then have the person gain weight.
Don't trust before and after pictures if they are trying to sell you something. You can trust most of the ones on here because they aren't here to sell anything.0 -

I love the ones for dark spot or wrinkle removal cream where you can see that they just took a second picture with a softer light.0

I hope they pay well if they expect people to deliberately gain weight! You have to love the creativeness of advertising. LOL!0 -
Remember this one? Fat to fit in 15 minutes: https://melvfitness.squarespace.com/melvfitnessblog/2013/08/transformation-or-few-simple-tweeks.html0

The creepy part is some just steal pics off message boards, flickr, etc, block the face, and claim them as their own. There a woman on reddit who had her before and after used in several scam ads.0

I use to have my before and after pictures on social media... but I had a company ask me to use my pictures for their product... I politely said,"*kitten* off," and proceeded to remove all my pictures.... At least they asked I guess...0

It's true ...but I don't think the woman looks fit ...a little better but not as dramatic as the man0

This is true of before-and-after anything. The befores are always in terrible lighting with un-done hair, insta-hunchback poses and a look on the face as if the person has just attended the triple-funeral of his or her mother, puppy and favorite teacher. The afters have makeup, good hair, artful lighting and "rawr" poses.0

I do this in the mirror all the time just to make me feel better, at first i stand all slumped over with my belly pushed out then i stand up straight and then i use my stomache muscles and clench my buttocks that way i look better and better in the last 2 shots. I was thinking of putting some photos of me doing this to see if i got a reaction out of people saying 'well done' whilst i hadn't done everything except use a correct posture. Of course i would tell them what i had done but i thought it my be seen as too much of a lie and i would have been kicked off here and as i need MFP to help me i think it is best not to, but i am glad this has been pointed out.

Agree that posture is important in pictures - female 'befores' are always done face on to the camera with a miserable slouchy posture, whereas the 'afters' are usually posed slightly side on with hand on hip etc etc.
I've spotted something similar in any weight loss TV show or advert where the person is being measured as well as weighed - for the before measurement they always hold the tape measure very loosely, but for the after the tape measure is always pulled properly tight so it looks like an extra inch has been lost!0 -
The only difference I see is lighting, tans, and posture. She still looks chubby. He was only chubby because he was slouching.0
