Check out success stories! It keeps me motivated seeing those people change. And, eye on the prize. Don't you want to see yourself 50lbs less?

It's not about motivation. Motivation will always fade in and out.

    It's about commitment and determination.

You need to do it even when you don't feel like it.

Weigh and log your calories accurately - make it a game to find better versions of foods you love, and to work in foods you adore in the right portion sizes. Find the short-cuts that make it easier. Get into the groove that lets you stick with this even when you think 'feck it, I don't wanna'

Move more to earn more calories to eat.

Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard. Time to pick your hard!

The above post explained it all. You start with motivation, in time motivation fades and it's all about making a habits just to do the right thing.
  • Hiya! I have struggled with motivation also. OFC I want to wear that bikini... but that cake is here RIGHT now and so damned tasty. I always fell into that trap. I have managed to get into the routine of always asking myself before consuming "will this HELP me fit my old bikini?" and if the craving is strong continue with "how much do you WANT to fit into that bikini?" And then I remember my birthday is in July - not that far really. And I somehow muster the strength to put it down. It's stupid and embarrassing for me but it works and I haven't got to the stage of "habit" yet as written above but I sure hope it happens soon!! Best of luck and feel free to add me for some encouragement :)

Motivation is my problem, too. I do well for a month or two then stop caring as much. Having a strategy to establish healthy habits has been very helpful for me.

    Things that have helped:
-I have to walk to work everyday because I didn't buy a parking pass. It's a $20 ticket if I am lazy.
-I prepaid for a class but was very honest with myself about what I will and will not do. No early mornings. I will not go more than once a week. I do better with longer sessions and less frequency. I can't commit to more than the next 4 weeks.
-I keep protein bars & shakes, snack packs, nuts, etc. at work so I always have something to eat. But I hide it in a locker (I will eat it if I see it).
-My freezer has tons of single servings of yummy soups for lunches and meat in marinades for dinners.
-I buy a week's worth of groceries when I'm not hungry. I fill the cart with healthy food and I can't stand to waste it. Even if I feel like eating pizza, I'll cook the stupid broccoli.

Feel free to add me. I lost ~55 last year, and now I'm almost 5 months into maintenance.

Bottom line: you have to figure out what motivates you. Personally it was NOT the # on the scale. Weight loss became a side effect of being more active, more healthy and more fit. By focusing on those things (instead of weight loss directly) it helped me to reach my goal this time. (After 12 years of on again, off again efforts.)
