Excited and just can't stop thinking about it.

Hi y'all. I've been on MFP for about 6 weeks now. I work in an office all day and most of the time I'm semi-restricted to my desk because I have to be available to catch service calls (HVAC repair), so I don't get a lot of walking in during the day. Most evenings I'm just so happy to get home and out of Atlanta traffic that I'm not motivated to work out beyond the occasional Wii game.
Well, yesterday the weather was just gorge! It was about 74* when I got home, so I changed clothes quickly (before I lost the notion) and decided to take our Husky for a walk. The walk was 2 miles (1 up and 1 back). I had always wanted to do it, but I was afraid because the walk is down a busy street with lost of auto and pedestrian traffic. I'm out of shape and I was just afraid of walking so far that I would be too tired to walk back, or that I would be winded or people would see me and think, "wow, look at her, she can barely make it". But, for some reason I was more excited than afraid. I strapped Zeus' hiking pack on and hit the pavement.
Let me tell you all, I was so pumped during this walk. I was walking extra fast or anything like that, but just keeping a nice steady pace with the dog. It was nice.
When I finished.....I was so proud of myself. It was like I had gotten energized! Now I'm craving that feeling again. It was like some kind of natural high. I liked looking on my FitBit and seeing I had finally met the 10K in a day goal, as well as floors, cals & active minutes. I was proud of myself and I still am. I did it!!!!! It's not as hard as it seems once you get into it.
I'm not posting this to get recognition or kudos. I think I'm posting it so that I and others like me (sedentary) can realize that "getting moving" is not the burden we sometimes make it out to be. For the new folks like me, that don't go to the gym, or work out on the regular, just try walking - walking your dog or something - just get moving! You'll see, it really can get fun, and when you see those stats and they say things like "good job", "best in a day" or "champ", it makes you want to continue on! I'm rooting for y'all. You can do it too!

Awesome job and to recognize that it's not a burden but rather a blessing to be able to work out. Perspective shifts everything. I've also learned to take things day by day. Having daily goals builds lifestyle and it takes away the overwhelming feeling of trying to reach a specific goal. Thanks for sharing SandyCoils0

Great post! Make sure you relay this story on to your co-workers if you hear moaning about not having time to do such things. Don't let them tell you they don't have time to do such things because of this or that....those are just excuses!
Keep it up!0 -
That's awesome. Thanks for posting. I hope it feels like that every time. Taurean said it: it is such an amazing blessing that your body can do stuff like that, EVEN when your head isn't sure you want to. Enjoy!0

The only thing I hate about the whole thing is that I didn't do it sooner. Such a bummer that it's cold and rainy today because I want to go again.0

good revelation
You could get a pedometer if you wanted, something like a basic fitbit that can motivate you to move more and automatically gives you more calories on MFP if linked
I keep getting accused of wearing down the dog's legs :laugh:0 -
