which ones do you recommend? how should you log it, calorie wise?

i don't use them often but certain recipes call for it from time to time, so just wondering

I use regular Pam when I'm cooking eggs. I log 2-3 second sprays, depending on how long I spray it for, so it adds 20-30 calories.

I have a generic olive oil spray. It says 0 calories on the bottle, but I still log about 40 calories, just to make sure.

I usually weigh the bottle, spray, and re-weigh. The 1-2 grams that I've used, I log typically as canola or olive oil since those are the flavors I keep on hand for when needed. I know that part of the 2g I use is fillers and whatnot but I figure it's close e-damn-nuff.

If you read the fine print though, it says 0 calories for a 1/3-second spray. I don't know anyone who's really using that little. Some have the disclaimer that they're about 9 calories per 1-second spray which is a touch more realistic (I was about to say Most of them have the disclaimer but I just looked at both of my store-brand generics and they don't. But my PAM does)

FDA guidelines allow them to post that if it's under 5 calories, and that's generally for a 1/4-1/2 second spray.

The brand I use (smart balance IIRC) also gives the weight per 1/4 second spray serving (.25g)... so I spray to 1g and log '1 second' (about 20 cal). I log 1 second if my scale doesn't register it by the time I feel it's enough for whatever I'm cooking, too.

I use my Misto with olive oil, but I usually log 1-2 tsp of oil depending on how long I feel I've held down the sprayer.

Just wondering if anyone has ever measured the weight/measurement of EVOO that comes out of one full Misto spray (fully pumped to fully discharged)?
I keep meaning to actually spray it into little graduated measuring tbsp cup to see, but never get around to it, so I log it as 1 tsp for now.

This thread inspired me to do the experiment. I weighed 3 five-second sprays of PAM. The results were 6, 6 and 7 grams, so a one second spray of PAM weighs 1.27 g, which corresponds to 11 calories using the standard factor of 9 cal/g for fat. I used two different cans, one partially used and one unused, and the results were similar, but I would expect as a can is depleted it will produce oil at a slower rate.

Interesting! Thanks for experimenting! I tried it with the misto last week, and I couldn't get my digital scale to register anything for a full spray. Seriously, 0 grams. That doesn't seem possible, so I'm still over logging it to be on the safe side.
