It will be as effective as you want it to be! Great support here but you gotta want it!
Use the food diary religiously and you will see great results.

It's the only thing that actually works 10/10 times if used correctly.

It definitely works. Get yourself some friends here to help motivate you and to compare notes with. You're welcome to add me if you like.

I love it! It keeps me aware as well as gives me a support system. It helps knowing there are so many people that use it and love it. Takes very little getting used to. I do it less for the social side but a lot of people enjoy that as well.

If you use it properly, it's 100% effective. Just some quick tips to help you out here, weigh food on kitchen scales to accurately log it in your diary. And when it comes to entering exercise, don't take the calorie burn this site gives you as gospel. Sometimes it can be way over. This site is great, but accurate calorie burn is something best calculated by specialist devices.

There's a forum section for Success Stories. You should really check it out when you have some spare time. Some people here are incredibly inspirational. In addition to success, I've learned so much in the past few years by participating in these forums. It's crazy how much misinformation is out there regarding weight loss. If I knew at 18 what I know now about eating healthy and calorie counting my life would definitely have been different. Good luck to you!

^^ this! I find using app's on my phone that can link up to myfitnesspal give inaccurate calorie readings. I used a Polar watch & heart rate monitor which tells me exact calories, heart rate during exercise ect. and manually correct the calories when i've finished exercising. I have found that I've burned 100+ more calories than what some app's say I have!

like any diet exercise program it is only as effective as you make it. with that being said it is the best tool I have found to track my intake of food and exercise. If you have not do so I would recommend getting a fitbit and sinking the 2 together that has helped me even more. I had 120 lbs to loose I am not down to 90 to go.

I have tried many times to lose weight (in other ways), i was never successful, i never stuck with it long enough to make a great difference. I was introduced to myfitnesspal in November 2014, and it changed everything. I started losing weight in September2014, but really started seeing a difference since starting with MFP. I have lost over 40 pounds total. Its easy to use, and you have a great support group behind you. If you are serious about losing weight, and you use the tools that MFP provides you, then you will be a success. Just remember to weigh as much as you can, its amazing how deceptive things look, and just saying a medium(whatever) or a small (whatever) can usually be way off. It will add up by the end of the week. Weigh, weigh, weigh. Good luck. If you need some friends for motivation and encouragement you can add me as a friend.

I've always eaten normal portions, etc., but I have been steadily putting on weight since high school until I peaked at age 31, 250 lbs at 5'3". I never really knew how my diet compared to my activity level until I found MFP, and that's been my problem all along. I really do have to track calories every day because it is so easy to go over, especially when I'm bored. After a month of using it, I don't see myself ever quitting. I'm down 8 of the 110 lbs I need to lose so far.
