Hi. I'm used to lots of cardio now and I want to get into lifting because well...have you SEEN the results on females?! Anywho, I also kinda want to complete 30DS as well. Can I do both together or is that too much?

Have you attempted SL 5X5 or something similar in the past?

Yes, I did it for a few weeks last summer..then kinda gave up on everything. I enjoyed it, though.

jumping to SL5x5 + that cardio at once might beat you up.
I would suggest starting out of stronglifts with and maybe some light cardio (biking, hiking etc.) and adding in 30DS over time if you feel recovered

Thank you for your reply! I hardly ever get those! lol I think you may be right. I want to do the lifting more than the 30DS so I'll probably just start with that and keep on my elliptical routine.
  • As soon as you get up to bigger weights - you are going to need your recovery days. 30DS + SL probably won't work out too well. Also it's not necessarily a great program if you are wanting to lose weight - if you eat at maintenance whilst lifting, you will get newbie gains which will improve your overall body composition.

If you really want to do your cardio though - I'd recommend doing Starting Strength as opposed to Stronglifts, SS is 3x5 where as SL is 5x5. Even a lot of fitness professionals think that 5x5 is too much volume for a beginner once you start lifting really heavy. SS 3x5 won't tire you out as much and will leave you time for your cardio, but you need to be getting those calories in!

Another program you may be interested in is GreySkull Linear progression - the author has specifically written several programs for female trainees.

At the end of the day though, it is up to your personal preference - I started on 5x5 and switched to greyskull when my lifts started to stall!

    Good luck!

Thanks! I'll check those out. SL also has a 3x5.

Depending on how fit you are, you might be able to do both. I just completed insanity Max 30 2 weeks ago and was lifting weights 3 days a week with it. I'm currently in my 2nd week of Focus T25 and doing StrongLift 5X5 3 days a week with it. So far doing both together is just fine and I'm slowly starting to see some good muscle definition in my upper body and legs.
I would do the weightlifting first followed by the cardio workout if you do decide to do both, as this will allow you to use all of your strength for heavy lifts. Good luck. :)

    Hey "bethmeek27"
I've incorporated Strong Curves into my workout for this month. It's a good compliment. I, too, am curious about switching to SL after finishing the SC program. Friend me if you like -- I would love to follow your progress. Your stats are similar to mine.
