Some times you have to put your self first...

So I started this whole, life change thing about 40 days ago, after thinking about it for over the past few years. I was heavily involved in my church which ate up a ton of my free time, as I am not one to say no to helping anyone. I backed off of a lot of what I did to make some time for me, and my family. I started going to the gym and love it. I even started going twice a day a few days a week, I love to do about a hour of cardio 6 days a week and then I go back at night and lift 3 nights a week after work, some nights I take a kickboxing class or do more cardio or just shoot hoops with my boys. Then it started all over again, I am a carpenter and we hired a guy who lives near my house. Gas being so expensive and the guy we hired, being broke and a new dad, I started giving him a ride. It the “right” thing to do… I started skipping the gym in the morning, and the evening as its on my way to work or home from work depending on which way I am going. I know I have to tell him he will have to meet me at the gym if he wants a ride, I have to get back to it or I won’t see the results I want to see. I also eat a ton healthier if I kick my butt for a hour in the morning, it’s a good reminder what I eat I must burn, so I watch my diet so much better when I get to the gym.
I guess I just wanted to encourage you all to remember its ok to put your self/family first. I am not so good at this and its one of the reasons I got so big. Well at least tomarrow is Friday and he gets paid, it will take a little of the sting off me telling him he has to find his own way in to work or at the least get to the gym and I can help him from there.
God Bless You All and keep swinging it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon. It’s not a diet it’s a life style change.

I agree with you... you do have to put yourself first.. if you dont who will? you are a good person with a big heart wanting to help him... but you only have one life one body and its up to you to do this for yourself.. I think by telling him he will understand... youre doing the right thing0

I can so appreciate this post. I have a demanding job; at first i wasn't eating right because I was in the office late; now i leave early, take my comp days, go for my walks, wake up working out (walking, kickbox and other cardio videos). I feel so much better. Even if i am busy i do not let that be an excuse on what i put in my body. I tell myself that 'self care' is most important.
I cheer on you for putting yourself first; it is essential to your over all health.

Something I am not very good at....putting myself first and taking care of myself. Thanks for the reminder and encouraging words.0

Remember that what is right for you is often what is right for others. Sometimes we think we are helping, but sometimes not in the best way. Live your life and get him to meet you at the gym or who knows he may solve his transport problems in another way more suitable to you both. I think you are great and making yourself a healthier person makes for a better community.0

It is a nice story and VERY nice to hear that I am not alone.... I also have a hard time taking "me" time. However, I do find that I am a much happier person the rest of the day if I do workout. Thank you for sharing.0
