Hi

My name is Julie, I have been on here for a few years but never really posted anything. I do have a question though. I am so frustrated, I am on Nutrisystem, which I lost 50 pounds on 10 years ago. I would like to lose 20 pounds. I have been on the diet for two weeks and have exercised every day for the last 6 days and haven't lost a pound. I am eating between900 and 1100 calories a day. The diet is high protein so I am not hungry. Do you think I am not eating enough, I really have a hard time thinking eating more will help me lose weight. I am so frustrated I had pizza and a rye and cold for dinner. Help!!

Julie

Working out, if that's a thing you've just started doing, can cause water retention. I sympathize with the frustration, but I think you're just being impatient and setting unrealistic expectations. Being 20 lbs from goal weight means it might take awhile also.

I would point out that you're trying a very extreme plan. (Very low calories + exercise would be a net of ~starvation~ though I don't know enough about Nutrisystem to know about your nutrition). Regardless. Extreme plan. And in one week, you don't see the results you wanted, you get so frustrated you eat a bunch of things you had pre-chosen not to eat? I'm not sure this will lead to long-term success.

Either rethink your approach, or relax your attitude and expectations a bit. Either way, you will lose weight, it's just about a) sticking to it and b) not driving yourself crazy or out of good health.

And if you've been thinking about trying something other than Nutrisystem... read the stickies around the forums here. Weight loss can be a lot more simple and pleasant than you're making it! (Although everyone's first week kind of sucks, I think!)
  • Thank you for your reply, I agree it seems a bit extreme. I always expect this to work like it did before. As I mentioned lost 50 pounds on Nutrisystem before but I need to lose the weight so it came off quickly. I understand the more you need to lose the faster it comes off. Just needed to vent I guess. I agree with you I need to relax, I just want to lose the rest so bad. I am 54 with a 13 year old athletic so that I want to play his sports with. I was an athlete all my life so I am unrealistically expecting things to come as easy as when I was younger. I will take your advice and look around the site for encouragement. Thanks again

If playing sports with your son is your goal, I'd say...

Come up with a plan to get fit enough to play with him. Hopefully something fun! Start this weekend!

Figure out a calorie goal that will get you weight loss, but also fuel your workouts. And maybe that fits in some pizza now and then. :) (The stickies I mentioned should be helpful with this, as is MFP. Try telling it you want to lose 0.5 lb or 1 lb per week and see what it says to eat -- this would be *before* exercise, and you can eat exercise calories or not)

Boom. Enjoy pizza (within your goals, rather than as a backlash from frustration). Get fit, be playing sports in no time. Be losing at whatever rate it happens. (20 extra pounds won't keep you from getting fit enough to play sports. So why wait?)

Good luck! I know the feeling of wanting it all off NOW. My best advice for that really is to just work on not feeling that way, since it won't happen. :D
  • Thank you for your support. I should mention I can play basketball and tennis Roth my son now, I just want to be in better shape to go longer
