training for first half marathon

Options
Hi I'm a year and a half breast cancer survivor and am training for my first half marathon in May. I'm trying to also lose some weight to hopefully make it easier. I would invite any suggestions that may help me train better. This is a wonderful app., very helpful.

Hi there. I am also a BC survivor, originally diagnosed in March 2013. I am also training for a half. I need to lose some of the weight I put on during treatment too!

Follow a training plan. It takes away the stress of if you are running too much or too little and what kind of run you should be doing (fast, slow, intervals, etc.).

I have used Hal Higdon's training plans (http://www.halhigdon.com/) for every half and full that I have run. He has different plans for different experience levels (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced). The half marathon plans are 12 weeks long so if your event is at the start of the May, then you only have 9 weeks, so you might have to jump into the 3rd/4th week of a plan. However if you have already been training and you pick a plan that fits your ability, then you should be fine.

Hal also has a "Weekly Q&A" post on TrainingPeaks Training blog (http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/training).

Congrats on committing to your first half, you're going to love it. I just did my first last weekend. Definitely check out the Hal Higdon link the above poster shared. His training plans are great!
