Anyone up for some friendly competition ??

Hi guys and girls, so not long ago a thread was started asking who would like to partake in a biggest loser style challenge ( if you havent heard of it but quite like the idea of a challenge just give it a quick google) the original post generated quite some interest and i for one would definitely like to go ahead with it. Depending on how much interest is shown will determime the amount of teams and sizes of those.
People who really want to do this send me a message ( a message will get to me quicker than responding on the forum plus some may not want to publicly say answers to the following) in this message please include :
● weight
● height
● age
● amount of weight already lost
● where you are from
● what you can offer a team ( for team leader entries)
some of you may think some of those are unnecessary, however i feel it will help me create good even groups.
I will stick with the same rules , it will come down to the group with the biggest weightloss % for the overal bodyweight of the group. As for team leaders i guess it will be easier for me to take results off of one person from each group ( they will be in charge of getting everyones lbs lost , they dont neeed to know starting weights ect then they can forward that to me) . If you would like to be a team leader then please include that in your message! One thing i will change is giving people the boot! Instead of removing teams who score the lowest we will just rank teams 1st 2nd and 3rd and the winning team can be champs for the week!

im hoping to start sunday , im aware most people weigh during the week , myself weighs on saturday but knowing i have to weigh sunday will stop saturday night binges!! Im happy to run it for 2 months if people are happy to continue then thats great and we can arrange for that to happen.

Honestly while I get that the idea is to be motivating, I feel like this kind of competition encourages/can encourage some really bad habits that may be difficult to overcome later on. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people in office pools that do these kinds of challenges (mostly in my FB) do ridiculous things to artificially inflate their starting weight (eat a huge, high sodium meal the night before, drink all the morning of weigh-in and hold off on peeing, etc) so that they can have an "advantage" - and then do the opposite (diuretics, starving the day before final weigh in, one lady even resorted to laxatives) before final weigh in. Even if *I* was doing it "right," I can't bring myself to participate in something where I've seen how easy it is to fall into doing it "wrong" just for the financial gain in the end. (This is also why I don't like DietBet, although it works for some)0

I must say if it floats your boat fine, but I do have an issue with competitive weight loss as it doesn't seem a healthy approach or sustainable one to me

Bragging about going out on a Saturday night? Hell yes, any idea how long it's been since this full-time working mother spent a fun night out with her girlfriends.
You should possibly look up the concept of bullying, because your view appears somewhat skewed by your self-perception unfortunately

I answered the way I answered because I don't think a competitive mindset when it comes to this whole thing is particularly healthy and it's not something that should be fostered on the forums.
It's not a way to be supportive. You can do everything right, and the scale won't budge. That's the truth of weight loss. If you add the pressure of a competition to it, it's just one more way for a person to feel like they're failing.0 -

FYI, there are several Groups that already do this. Not inventing the wheel here. Biggest Loser Team Challenge is going on right now (9th week of 11). Last fall I was invited to join the first one this particular member created and I did. Against my better judgement I decided to do it one more time. I'm not going to do it a third time. My reason is that I don't want a team's "win" to be dependent on my weight loss.
I do participate in 2 other group "challenges" which work much better for me. They are just groups that use spreadsheets to track losses weekly. The first one I joined was an Easter challenge in the spring of 2014. I think I weighed 212 at the beginning of that "challenge". I now weigh 169. It's pretty cool to look back at the spreadsheets and see the progression downward. These aren't competitions though. They are just a group of people who want to track their weight loss and occasionally talk about strategies for losing. Not for everyone of course!
Some of the things I've noticed about the Biggest Loser challenges is how many people drop out! A huge percentage quit really soon. Also, the "motivation" is all over the board because some people are focusing on "exercise" while some are focused on macros and others on certain ways to achieve a deficit. Very hard to have a "team" who care about doing the exact same things, so it gets a bit crazy.
Even the team leaders often quit; even the challenge creators sometimes quit before the challenge ends!
Like others have said ^^, I'm doing this for me. I don't want my weekly ups and downs to affect anyone other than me. Lesson learned about team challenges, in my case anyway.
OP, I suggest you start a new Group if you have people who PM'd you that they want to do this. That way you can talk about it amongst yourselves. Good luck with the challenge. Oh, I also suggest you create a google spreadsheet because really that's the most efficient way to track most efficiently.

I can completely respect other people's opinion on this , of course if I'd had experience with this sort of thing before and maybe witnessed the kind of things you guys are saying then of course my view would probably be different. As competitive as it may be, for me it's more about the group support and making some good new friends who actually interact and that I can turn to and they can do so as well. It's lovely that so many of you have the drive to do this alone but please try to remember some people ( especially those just starting ) don't have that strong mind frame, that gradually builds up. I agree that it is very easy to lie about lbs lost but isn't it true that the only person they are lying to is them self? There's not some huge prize just a weeks worth of bragging rights, it really shouldn't cause too much competition , just some light hearted comp. As I said before I totally respect what others have said.0
